Looking for a tablet...

I have used iPads previously, and iPhones, but am keen on buying an inexpensive tablet for gaming only, preferably android which ive never used.

Do new/cheap tablets suffer in any way, frame rate or whatever, or can I buy a "decent" new tablet i expensively which perfectly does the job as a games toy?

If I was looking to buy one in the morning, what might i be looking to get as a minimum spec/brand/model? I'll probably pop down to the shops and end up buying whatever the sales chap reccomendes, so any suggestions on buying appreciated. Cheers.
