Recovering files with Recuva or what?

Stupidly, I managed to not only delete some photos into the recycle bin but then emptied that as well. Don't ask me how ....
Anyway, Googled a possible answer and it came up with Recuva which I downloaded and ran. Unfortunately it only found about 4 usable images of the about 300 I had deleted. I didn't use the computer to download anything at all after I had emptied the bin to avoid overwriting.
Is there a deeper recovery program available that anyone can recommend over Recuva or am I wasting my time?
