It's their way of saying they're sorry for Windows 8 and Vista.

I'll download it but I won't install it until the applications and games I play are known to be compatible.

It's not the Beta, you can get that now. It will be the full release, don't know when but when it's released it'll be available.

It might be a staged update.

My laptop hasn't got it but my desktop has. Bought the laptop year or two after the desktop so has a newer serial coded Win 7 install.

I have windows 7.
I don't see any reason to upgrade though? I have heard horrible things about 8. MY PC is a 5/6 year old laptop. I only really use it for browsing and playing Red Alrt2. biggrin
Remember the cycle of Windows.

Windows 95/98 Good
Windows ME - Bad
Windows XP - Good
Windows Vista - Bad
Windows 7 - Good
Windows 8 - Bad
Windows 10 - So...........Good?

Does the icon remain in the taskbar after you've reserved...?
Yes as it's a help to know more about 10, check your PC can run it and let you know when it's available to download. If you click on the icon tray up arrow bit then select customise you can hide it.

Not a good idea to call it Windows No for the German speaking market place.

Interesting about Windows updates being fully automatic for home users. Pro and Ent will have the option not to install but home users won't, it'll be done whether you like it or not...

I don't let my machines update automatically especially as it can often require a restart. I get the notification but normally wait to see if it breaks something for others before installing it myself.

I may just stick with 7 and 8.1 unless there's something compelling to make the upgrade worthwhile.
Windows 10 will download but it will not install until you tell it to.

Oh you meant updates in Windows 10. Thought you meant update as in 10 being an update for 7 or 8.

Serious question, why would I want to do this?

What does Windows 10 do that Windows 7 doesn't?
It's 3 more.

It'll be supported longer, by all accounts runs better.

I've had the "update to Windows 10" in my control panel/Windows Update, have you checked there to see if it's ready?

Had it for in there for the last few days, noticed a large 5.68GB folder called $Windows.~BT in my C drive from the 29th July which must be it. But today is the first time I have seen a blue "Your upgrade is ready" pop up appear above my tool tray.

So check the updates and check if you have the folder. Then wait, there are far too many issues floating around. smile

Tossing thing tries to upgrade every day if you don't want it to yet, according to the update log.

At least Windows 7 updates are still occurring even if I don't see any in my list of updates.

You will have to check available updates yourself in the optional list, remembering to deselect Win10 upgrade and select the options.

yes 1x PC & 1x laptop both with upgrades ready for W10.

Both still running W7 and will be until next year at the earliest. Or if I don't upgrade at all.

Tried to upgrade a laptop to have a look at W10. Upgrade via Windows update.

Keep getting upgrade failed code C1900101-40017 which by looking online not even Microsoft know what it means and how to fix it. It seems it might be driver related I have tried disabling driver licenses, checking device manager and letting Windows update drivers, even if updating drivers changed my 2013 ATI Radeon drivers for more updated 2009 drivers rolleyes

Tried 4 times with changes above same error.

Has anyone else seen this? A Google of pistonheads and thr code gave no results for this thread.
