Storing or caching routes, Google Maps or similar

We're off to Sicily on holiday next month and we're hiring a car. In case we don't get sat nav in the car, is it possible to plot the route from the airport to the accomodation in Google Maps (or some similar Android app) so we can call it up and use that if need be, without having to enable data roaming and get whacked with a big bill when we get home?

Thanks, that sounds like it might work. Can you tell me how? I've looked in the (fairly recent) past and not seen anything that looks like what I need.
