Windows phone giving me grief

My Nokia Lumia 625 has started playing up,it will no longer play MP3s from my collection,wont play Youtube videos:says it cant play these types of files,and wont play any sounds,on an incoming call,or an alarm.
Any ideas what is wrong?
I haven't updated it from Windows 8.0,is this Bill Gates getting his own bacck on me for not using the latest version? Will updating help? Or will it need something more technical?

Well,back from the pub,and have updated it. I was worried it may ruin the phone even more than it is,as I'm sure I had read of that happening. In any event it seems to be OK, though my music seems altered,as does the look of PH. But so far so good,although email hasn't worked yet..just need to be patient I suppose.

Just annoys me that to do anything I HAVE to update wether I want it or not.
