About to renew a contract and the cheeky bstds want to charge me for delivering my new phone, is this common practice or shall I tell them to do one?

tell them you can collect it at your local store
Yep did that, said they couldn't do it.

Orange, wanted six and a half quid. Having had a new phone every 18mths or so for the last 20 years this was the first time they wanted to charge for delivery. They haven't moved on the deal either (seems pretty good though so maybe I'm looking for something that isn't there).

Orange have become diabolical since they joined with EE. I've been with them 15 years but I can't stand their shoddy customer service anymore.
Yeah, just spoken to all the competition and they were all more helpful than Orange (EE). However I can get a significantly better deal with them than any of the others even if it means sucking up the delivery charge. Looks like I'm going to stick.

Try asking them for your PAC number and threaten to leave?
You don't have to follow through on the threat if it fails. wink
Yep, that sounds like the last option to squeeze any last value from the deal.
