HDMI extenders

A friend has just bought an HDMI cat6 extender from eBay to connect his BT Youview box to a second TV in the dining room. It uses the LKV372 chipset, single ethernet cable, IR, and has local loop out.
It basically works, but the receiver needs to be reset each time the remote TV is switched on, or the TV doesn't sync properly - screen keeps going blank, audio is garbled, or picture suffers from lines and sparklies.
Is this a "feature" of all these devices?
Will it improve when he gets the correct cat6 cable? It's currently being tested with both TVs in the same room, using a 2m cat5 patch cable.

It doesn't have any switches.
I think it's a "handshake" problem, as the TV displays different resolution messages each time it goes blank.
If the reset button on the receiver is pressed after the TV is switched on, the picture is perfect, and stays that way until the TV is turned off and back on again.

An update on this.
My friend fitted a cat6 cable, which cured the picture sparklies and audio problems, although he is still getting dropouts for a couple of seconds (blank screen, no audio). The dropouts happen when the fridge freezer starts up, and when power to his shed is switched off from inside the house.
The shed switching off is strange, as it happens even if the CU in the shed is switched off, so no load, just a few metres of mains cable plugged into a socket in the house.
Nothing else in the house causes the problem. Microwave, washing machine, tumble drier, kettle, hair drier, electric shower - none of these cause a problem.
We have fitted clip on ferrite rings to each end of the power cables between the wall warts and the extender boxes. This made no difference.
Is there anything else we can try, short of trying a different make of extender?
