Mouse problems
Discussion
Problem just started today
On Desktop Windows XP O/S
My optical mouse cursor doesn't move
Have tried another mouse same problem tried using a different USB socket no change.
Rebooted several times
Restored to a known start point.
All to no avail
The only place the mouse works ok is when I start and run in safe mode.
Any ideas what may be the problem.....and how to resolve
Cheers

Can you access the Mouse Control Panel.
Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse
There is a tab for Advanced, is it showing any problems with the mouse.
Also do you have a special type of mouse that requires any drivers, maybe these aren't working and need to be re-installed.
You could also try going into device manager, and check under Mice and Other Pointing Devices for any conflicts. (Little yellow warning flags)
From the device manager screen you can also try rollback driver, or update driver to see if windows can get a more up-to-date driver for you.
Have you recently installed any hardware that could be causing conflicts?

No hardware or software installed recently
Can I still get a web connection when in safe mode didnt seem so last time I tried cos I thought of looking for the driver and reinstalling
As I mentioned 2 different types/makes of mouse are having the same issues
I can probably access the Mouse in safe mode....is that ok?
Steve
Ok an update chaps
I have connected an old mouse to thePS/2 socket and that works fine...well as fine as non optical mouse can work.
I had previously reinstalled the software for the Cordless Mouse to no avail.
So in summary both my optical mice, one cord, one wire each couldn't function no matter which USB port I used. They both worked OK in Safe mode. Just a little more info when going through the normal start up sequence the mouse/cursor moves fine until just before all the programmes are loaded in the start screen...then it shoots off to the same point on the screen and then refuses to budge
Bizarre
