Got a bit of a problem... frown

Basically, reformatted my computer last night, then it went back to SP1, which wasn't compatible with WPA only WEP so I then ran SP2 from a disc, installed that, everything worked fine, let me put in my WPA key, network connected, good signal...all perfect...

Then when I open up an internet browser, it says I have no internet connection. But my WIFI connection is working perfectly, and works fine with other laptops in the house.

Sometimes, I can get it to load a page if I just keep hitting refresh like 30 times...then it'll carry on not loading any pages unless I keep doing this.

Turned off all firewalls etc. set up all the settings, should all be working, but it isn't. Also, when I'm downloading stuff it'll just either not download and say I don't have an internet connection, or start downloading but then fail and say there's no connection.

It's basically like my computer isn't detecting the internet connection from the WIFI...but it IS connected!!! frown

Any ideas!?

Are you sure you haven't got Work Offline selected on the IE File menu?

You could also try bringing up the DOS/cmd menu and running:

ping www.google.co.uk

That'll establish whether it's something odd with the browser, or your connection overall.

If the ping finds an IP address and gets a response, then the connections fine.
Work offline is definitely not selected, Firefox etc doesn't work properly either and nor does MSN or any programs that access the internet.

The actual connection itself is fine, as it's working on other laptops/computers with the same connection, it's just my computer won't access it! Worked fine before the restore too.

I'll try pinging google.co.uk when I get home and see what happens. Thanks for the advice.

I uninstalled MSN once I reformatted as it was the old version anyway but that made no difference. frown

Have you re installed your isp disc? I get it every time and it has to be re installed as there must be software tied to the service or whatever. Best one was when I bought a new laptop and couldn't get the Wifi to work at all. Took it back and was embarrased when the tech bloke pressed the button with the wifi symbol on it and hey presto it worked paperbag
Never had to have software installed before to connect to a WiFi network...

I can even connect to this network on my mobile...just won't let me use the internet on the PC.
