Laptop screen visibility in the sun

Any tips? Brightness turned up to the max, screen facing away from the sun and it's just about ok but are there any magic tricks to making this more usable?

There are plenty of hoods/shades advertised, which should improve visibility (just Google "laptop hood" or laptop shade"). Alternatively, if you're not too bothered about appearances, you could just rig up a DIY hood from cardboard.
