Well, it's rumored, but Steve Jobs giving a keynote at the beginning of the WWDC at 10am Pacific Time (1800 GMT) is almost certain to be the next generation iPhone. Though many have called it 4G, surely it will be HD or something not 4-inducing.

I'm interested to see what it will be like (though Gizmodo will of course give the look away), it's specs and importantly when it's out! I'm out of contract on a 3G, so look to get the new one as soon as it's available.

Anyone know where we'll be able to watch it (the keynote) - do they show it live on apple.com?

Looks pretty dam special. 24th June: not long! So how will it work with o2 - will there be preordering?

preordering starts in a week apparantly, unless that was just for the US market (doubt it!)
Interesting thanks. I like many others will be trying to get one!

32gb or 16gb| I have a 16gb 3G however HD movie, bigger pictures and inevitably larger apps may make the 32 the one to go for.
But, I'm a bloke, so will buy the biggest one hehe

Isn't the whole point of all these things that Apple might not be putting brand new features onto phones, but what they're doing is giving it in a form factor that makes it easy to use for the majority.

9yrs ago there's no way in the world my girlfriend would have had an all singing all dancing phone, because it was difficult to use and required fiddling and setting changes and heavy PC intergration. The iPhone, however, is one button here, one switch there, and stuff works. That's where the benefit is.

Yes, the screen was a huge part of it, but it's the way they present it and the way they restrict it that means to the majority of phone users it's perfect.

As for the iPad question - it's been bought completely irrelevant of the iPhone, why would that matter?! confused

I was just thinking for a matter of cost. I'm sure most people wouldn't go out and buy both within two months of one another, I just wondered whether those who had bought the iPad wish they had waited for the iPhone 4 seeing as the release dates are so close together. I'm sure I will, eventually, own both but waited to see what the new iPhone was like first to make my choice.
Oh I see what you mean. To be honest, everyone "knew" about the forthcoming iPhone; their timings have been the same for the last few years, and so I doubt it's come as a surprise to anyone that the new iPhone is available to buy end of June.

Of course, for many you wouldn't ideally spend out quite so much in a couple of months, but so be it!

My iTunes says I'm on the latest version, any idea when/how the new OS is pushed out for the 3GS?
On 21st June plug your phone into your PC, and in iTunes click "check for updates".

Actually, better make it 22nd June; it will be a bit busy on the 21st smile

Can anybody tell me what the O2 sales page is saying at the moment? I'm stuck in South Africa with work at the moment and it won't let me view the page.
Nothing of any note - just says it's coming, and you can register your interest to get an e-mail when there's more info. If you say you're interested in buying at launch they'll also ask for your address to send you a micro-sim.

Any news on whether the actual screen itself will be tougher, as the wife has cracked two screens so far in a space of 3 months.
I've known others to have problems, and so this isn't a direct attack on your wife, but I've used mine, never in a case, no screen protector, and while I take care of it I have accidentally dropped it on concrete once (gutted about that), and it's with me through lots of travelling, road trips etc, and I'm still on the same phone as when I bought it 18 months ago.

What on earth is she doing that she's cracked two screens?

I am with you. Had mine for a while and have been very careful. She has cracked it twice as she has been trying to multi-task!! like talk on the phone, while carry handbag and manage child. Have told her to be more careful, however a device in this day and age, should be able to survive the drop test. Accidents will happen, however dropping an iphone on concrete seems to be game over!! A tougher screen would help, however seems to generate more revenue for Apple if they continued to break!!
Ah I see so it has been actual dropping that's done it.

I dropped mine once on concrete but was lucky it landed on the corner rather than on something raised and into the screen - such a minute scratch where it landed, I thought I'd well and truly done it! hehe

Cases are pretty good - if she's prone to droppiing (2 in 3 months, it's a must! smile ) then a small rubber one will take enough impact to stop it happening again.

I must admit - a few times I've got my phone out my pocket and it's "bar of soaped" on me - you know, where you just can't grab it at all and it flies out. I've been lucky that's been while sat on a sofa or something similar.

So; case smile

So now you know prices for PAYG, who is upgrading on o2, and who is going to sell their phone privately and buy a payg iphone 4?
With the new non-unlimited data plans, surely that has to be a tempting way to go (and thereby keep your 3G unlimited data plan).

Quite, it would probably cost £200 for me, I watched an iphone 3gs 16gb go for £323 last night on ebay.

Not quite sure when they send out the micro sims though? Will they send me one in the post as I've asked for one or what?
No idea - it did seem like they'll be sending them out pronto, so that when you get your new iPhone 4 on day 1 you can use it.

I'm in the same position - O2 customer for many years, but they've gone and taken out MMS as part of your texts (it used to be 4 x text I think for one MMS) and also taken off unlimited data.

As someone above said - it seems they know what is coming, and so at the moment it might not seem so bad but in 12 months time when people are streaming heavy stuff, they'll be laughing.

Ok, I called Vodafone to find out a bit more. The very helpful robot lady said there had been a delay in annoucing prices and its unlikely they will be announced today.
Ah, so no one else has revealed their prices either, or...Apple announced higher/lower than they thought they would.

maybe I'm being thick, and I can't see 02 site, getting the "Sorry we don't sell to countries outside UK" but when I last logged in from home I noticed in small print somewhere that the unlimited data thing is still on as an offer until October 1 or October 31.
Yup, it says that on the tariffs page - so looks like all will be becoming limted.

Annoyingly I reset my usage statistics last week in LeMans to see how much I used, so not sure what I do a month.

Tony, sorry to trouble, is it Oct 1 or Oct 31? It makes a difference in my case.

As far as usage statistics, if you are on O2 can you not log into My O2 , OK I mean *your* "My O2" and look back at usage on previous bills. I have been looking at mine right back to including the Crackberry which preceded the iPhone, ie to 2008ish.
Just found it again for you - it says, in full;

"Unlimited data on all smartphone tariffs is a promotion until 1 October 2010. Excessive usage policy and terms apply. "

Oh good stuff about Myo2 thanks I'll look at my usage then through that. Knowing more data-hungry services are coming, of course, but at least it gives me an idea smile
