XP Window Position Problem

Won't go into the specifics, but XP thinks a window is on another screen - which doesn't exist. So I can't get to the window.
I can right click maximise on the application on the tool bar and that brings the window into full screen on the existing screen, but if i go to the independent floating window mode, it goes back to this non existent screen.
Erm, help? How do I reset screen positions for apps in XP?

It was a little more complicated as it was an XP vm running on a Mac. The Mac has two screens and one must have been disconnected at some point whilst running the vm, which meant XP wasn't seeing the second screen but was more than happy to draw the window in the non existent screen.
