W211 E320cdi estate tyre choices

I have a 2003 E320 Cdi Estate with the full airmatic. Tyre size is currently 225/55 r16 - standard alloys.
When I got the car, I am pretty sure it had some Khumo's on it, which seemed to last a fair while. Back in August, I had 4 new pirellis put on and I am thoroughly displeased with them. They are very twitchy in the wet, often lighting up the traction control. They have also poorly worn, lasting around. So, I aint having them again!
So, does anyone have any recommendations? - I'm currently thinking about going back to the Khumo's - the KU31's, or trying the nexens. Also, what manufacturer would mercedes have used originally? - I seem to think it was continental, but not too sure.
