Hi

Having read the EVO, CAR and Autocar pre-reviews - I found myself in a Mercedes dealer on Saturday and ordered a GT-S. Anyone else got one coming?

Question...to me the GT S is in a straight fight with the R coupe and even speaking as a Merc fanboy with 3 of em on the drive, I can't see a way past the big cat, so what is your choice made on?

I really really want to like the GT, but I really can't see why anybody would buy anything other than the R at the moment , that includes Aston buyers et al. The cat just has everybody outgunned. It all feels distinctly unJaguar like!
I think the F-Type tries too hard. It's a bit shouty and loud - and if you're going to be shouty and loud - then be really Shouty and Loud! I have other cars that fill this role perfectly.

I think that the GT-S is a usable, everyday car, which is a reasonable size and looks to be easy to live with.

I received an email from my dealer yesterday, saying that price list and delivery slot will be confirmed over the next couple of weeks.

Got the price list and options list today. So I've just ordered:

GT-S with the following options:

1. 658 – 19”/20”forged alloy wheels in Titanium
2. DP0 – Premium package
3. DP2 – Driving Assistance Package
4. H73 – High Gloss Carbon Trim Package
5. P71 – AMG Dynamic Plus Package
6. B07 – Carbon Ceramic Brakes
7. B14 – Carbon Engine Cover – BUT ONLY IF IT IS PAINTED THE SAME COLOUR OF THE CAR – I DON’T WANT IT NAKED CARBON
8. 555 – AMG Performance Seat
9. 811 – Burmester High End Audio Package
10. R03 – Sports Tyres
11. 773 – AMG Carbon Trim Package – PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THE CONTACTLESS BOOT UNLOCKING WONT WORK WITH THIS OPTION
12. 982 – Designo Iridium Silver Magno
13. 621 – Exclusive Nappa Leather/DYNAMICA – Black with Grey top-stitching

Don't want to know how much the options are - but it looks good to me! Am waiting for confirmation of a March delivery date - may want to go to factory and pick it up - just waiting to hear if that's possible.......and the answers to the two questions 7 and 11.

Sadly, MB will only provide naked carbon bonnet, confirmed yesterday, so thats crossed off the list. Strange really, as my Maserati MC Stradale has a carbon fibre bonnet, which is painted body colour on the outside - looks great when you pop the bonnet open. Ho Hum. We went through the edition 1 spec, with carbon roof and bonnet (so no panoramic roof). So I gave it a miss, as I understand MB are already working on a GT3/GT3RS competitor - out in 2016......now that should be very interesting.......

Anyway - Deposit all paid and just waiting for the delivery date...

I'm popping in tomorrow - I'll let you know where I am.

With regards to a previous post, the options and price lists were sent to me a couple of weeks ago. PM me if you need a copy....although I would have thought your dealer would have sent them through - as you can't place an order without the spec, is what I've been lead to believe.

Hi Strachan100

I put a £1K deposit down originally, then when the options and pricing were forwarded to me, I spec'd the options and paid the dealer (MB in Chelsea) 10% deposit. As I understand it (and I could be wrong) the car will not get a build slot until:

1.Full deposit is paid
2. Car is spec'd
3.MB to confirm delivery date

I will ask about picking up from the factory later today.

I don't have the exact number, but my guess is that, looking at the market segment and the high density of competitors, it will be a reasonable number. I'd imagine that initially supply will be restricted and slowly increased to meet demand.

You're talking about a 110k - 150k, two seater sports car, not a four seater coupe (CL, Ferrari FF, Maserati MC Stradale, Bentley GT etc). These cars (2 seater sports cars) generally hold their values pretty well, and I would be very happy if the GT can match the depreciation of a 911. My expectation would be that rather than discount heavily in 12 months, as has been suggested, MB would restrict supply to match demand and control second hand values. I cannot see that happening, especially when you read the reviews that are just appearing online and will appear in the motoring press over the coming months. EVO road test is out on the 3rd of December.

The SLS was and still is a great car, but was aimed at a different segment. I suspect that the SLS will be sought by collectors long term.

Just my two penneth.....

I have a build date of April, confirmed today - which is the start for UK production. I'm getting one of the first ones for delivery to the UK - although I have asked if I can pick up from the factory.....

The EVO write up was pretty good - it sounds like a pretty reasonable attempt out of the box.

Factory collection would be great!!

I'm going to pop into my MB dealer this weekend to talk to them about a standard GT - I have the funds now, just not sure if I'm brave enough (£68k on my R8 was difficult enough getting my head around a few years back). But I also know that life is too short and, at 51, I really should be saying "to hell with being sensible and cautious". smile
I think that there may be an issue with Winter tyres - not sure if they will be still be required in Germany when the car is built. I have ordered the sports tyres with my GT S - so I guess that may be a problem. Well, not really a major problem, but let's see!

I agree with your sentiments - you only live once - so why the hell not!

I've just out of the other side of an acrimonious divorce (aren't they all ????) that dragged on for several years - so I have a few toys lined up to make me feel better - I get a 458 Speciale in March, the GT S in April (I think!) - and an Aventador SV in October/November! I think I'm going to keep my Aventador Roadster, which I really like (surprisingly more than my old Aventador Coupe) - just need to work out what to do with the Maserati MC Stradale, which I gets me around town......I think the GT S may replace this as it's a bit smaller and should do the around town bit much more simply. Let's not get into the motorcycles....... smile

No - he didn't but his email said.....

".......Your car is on the April production line ( very first production month for the UK ) and there should be no delays with regards to the paint ( Magno Designo ). Also to confirm that your car is on top of the list and will be the very first customer delivery in the UK!"

So I'm guessing April/May? I've never brought an MB before - so have no idea what they are like with delivery times?

You can still pick up your car from Porsche - my friend is picking up his 918 in March. Strangely enough, he's not getting charged extra for this........

I won't lose any sleep about not picking the car up - would have been nice to, however, sadly will be working or might get a last bit of spring skiing in, depending on the weather. Picking up the SLR was so much easier......

Yet to experience the MB experience, however will NEVER buy another Porsche ever again. The mother F*ckers sold me a 997 GT3RS which had been written off, reshelled out the network, with the same chassis number stamped in the shell, and then given a Porche 200 point inspection and approval. Porsche GB (Andrew Goss hang your head in shame) were complicit in this as were Porsche in Stuttgart. There is an old thread on pistonheads somewhere. Will happily repost pictures in the correct forum.

I'm so glad they nearly went bust and are now owned by VAG, who also own Lamborghini.

I was in the process of negotiating over of Carrera GT at the time, but will never touch the beetle producers ever again. It's called voting with my wallet.....

I'm pretty certain that the GT is being launched in the UK in December 2015. First deliveries will be late 2015/early 2016. I think the MB are going down the route of:

1. GT-S Launch/GT-S "Edition 1"
2. GT Launch
3.GT-S convertible
4. GT convertible
5. GT-S Black series

(3-5 are just guesses, based on what I was told when I was at MB World at Brooklands). No definitive timescales. I would guess that the GT-S convertible will be ready for European/US summer 2016?????) then followed by a GT3/Black Series GT-S 2017 (Again all timescales are just me guessing).....

Just been down to MB Chelsea to sign a form and give them my registration retention certificate. The build is now locked down - and of course I wanted to add one more item to the list! He's getting back to me tomorrow to see if it's possible. He has 15 orders for the GT-S - and he showed me my position on dealer order list - No. 1, which is nice to see it confirmed in writing....

He also confirmed to me that I can't do a factory collection - even though I offered to buy a spare set of wheels with winter tyres....Ho hum....

He did say that I am on the VIP list - but don't really understand what that means yet - I look forward to finding out!

Thanks for the heads-up. They didn't mention it, having said that, we seem to never speak to the same person when we pop in as they have a high turnover of sales people. We seem to attract the "I've only been here a week, fresh form BMW and don't know the range well'' brigade which doesn't bode too well.

That said, the chap we did end up speaking to seemed to know his stuff who was Mike the Transaction Manager. I think we will be holding out for a convertible...
The convertible might not be out until 2017.......I understand that US launch for GT-S is after ours (UK) in Q3 2015, with US GT launch in Q1 2016. MB will be adding to the option lists from Q2 2015 - for the next 18 months or so in conjunction with the car releases - with the Convertible to follow (GT-S an GT models) - followed by a "Black Series" model.

It sounds to me like the GT is going to be a full production run (7 years +), unlike the SLS (4 years), with continual development and a whole "family"......

Bodes well for us punters.....

Just been told that my car delivery is slipping to June. Not very happy at all. Apparently, so I have been informed, that RHD dealer cars are being built in April - then shipping to UK.

My build date is now 31/05/2015 with the car arriving at the dealership on 15/06/201. I think that MB need to get their sh*t together, pretty quickly.

Not a satisfactory experience at all......
