I've had my A45 since July and have covered almost 3000 miles. It's a stonking little car and with the Rebellion V2 tune it's quicker in nearly every real world situation than my previous stage 1 C63 PPP. It's great on the fuel for what it is and the tech and build quality put to shame the W204 C class. However........

I think i'm starting to miss the reliably huge thump of the 6.2V8. I've had no troubles with the 2.0 turbo in the A45 and don't know anyone who has (other than the bad batch of turbos) but you can really tell it's a 2.0 and not a bigger unit, much like an Evo i guess. Fizzing around in the little 4-pot is great fun and in my opinion it's the ideal 'wife' car but it's not such an event as the C63. It lacks the torque and top end pace, despite it being an absolute slayer up to 100mph.

Anyone else finding the same thing? Would i be daft to sell the A45 back to Merc and pick up a very late 507 or low mile PPP as a keeper until the W205 sheds it's astronomic value? Not sure i can avoid the classifieds long enough to keep the A45 full term!

Does the V2 tune affect the warranty as I am really fancying a GLA 45 AMG for work duties?
What sort of MPG are you getting overal not that it would be a deal breaker at 5k a year?
How are you finding the build quality of the interior as there has been problems with some?
Yeah, if left in place the V2 box would do nothing but bad things for the warranty. But the good thing with it is that you can simply unplug it and the car / MB is none the wiser that it's ever been fettled. Win win!

Fuel economy: At 3000 miles im averaging 25mpg i think. You can easily get 35mpg on a long run but you have to be gentle. The 40+mpg that MB states is pure tosh but 35 ain't too shabby for a 3.7s to 60 car!

Build quality for many has been ace, and for some others it's been awful. My car is pretty sound and i've had no issues with rattles. On the rattle note, many complain about the passenger seat belt rattling against the side of the seat whilst driving solo. Solution: MB built a magnet into the seat shoulder so if you lift the buckle up a couple of inches and push it against the seat leather it will hold nicely and silently whilst you hammer around your favorite country roads. Overall finish is far superior to the W204 in my opinion and despite it being a bit OTT with the colours, screens and vents the standard of finish is excellent. Advice: Drive a few to find the rattly ones.

Eddie RS6 down to MRC 800bhp Bobs your uncle.

You know it makes sense lol
I hear you mate. Not sure I'm fancying a C6 at this present time. Now the C7 is out the old V10 looks a little inferior, despite it actually being bloody awesome. What you got at the moment?

I keep looking at 507's and a certain fire opal red Black Series!

This topic illustrates the gulf between a uber competent car and a truly great one.

I test drove the A45 for PH over a year ago and my biggest concern was that Mercedes appeared to have created something ever so close to perfection in terms of dynamics.

many of you here either have done or are considering, chipping the car to make it quicker, but once you have got used to the pace, and you will, the clinical nature of the vehicle will, almost certainly, result in you looking elsewhere for the element of fun so needed for a fulfilling long-term relationship.

Every rumble of the V8, every aural sensation from the 63 cars is real, and as a result of the physics chemistry and biology of the car. In the A45, its all fake. It's all created to form an illusion by very worthy and clever electronics.

. I like the A45, it is, at this time, close to the pinnacle of what can be achieved from a 2 litre engine. It is efficient, reliable and of great quality. But would it be heresy to say that its just a little bit too good?
As an A45 owner since March and my previous car a B7 RS4, I kinda agree with your sentiments. The A45 is not a particularly rewarding car to drive, but it is a good all rounder. Mine has been faultless over the first 5000 miles and the cabin is a nice place to spend time in compared to the dated RS4.
That's the thing. The interior of the A45 is pretty swish to say the least. Much better than the C63 i had. I'm wondering what an A45 would feel like if it had a 6.2V8 under the bonnet and not the 2.0T.

christ, thanks for screwing up my decision of getting rid of the C63.... I'm already struggling with what to replace it with...

Part of me is contemplating something off the wall like a Corvette Stingray, or buying a cheap X5 running it as a tractor for a couple of years.

Then again, I had on and off been planning for years to get a 1968 Mustang Fastback, perhaps now's the time
Were you looking at A45s then as an alternative?
