One less SL55 on the roads :(

So the Mrs and I went to spend a lovely afternoon in Richmond yesterday, so found a parking spot and headed off on foot.
I was parked a little in front of the white car below:
Imagine my shock to find, upon my return a few hours later, this:
Apparently it was an "unusually high tide" according to some stunned locals, and it was still rising when I took that picture. By the time I had got there, the water had already gone over the door sills and filled the inside of the car.
The rear wheel was about half way up and the front about a third when I took the pictures.
The windows had opened themselves, seats moved forward, random lights flashing and warning lights on the dash.
There were no signs anywhere - I had looked for parking restriction signs very carefully, and had another look after the flood - there were no warnings, there were no yellow lines etc!
Anyway, I eagerly await my insurance payout so I can get back into another car - it seems SL65's are still out of reach though

Yes across from the White cross pub. A local told me that not too long ago someone's R8 got wrecked in the same spot I was parked in and the guy was actually crying.
I'm not too upset - it wasn't anybody's fault - just one of those things.
Upon my recommendation, the insurer is going to try to recover costs from the council.
It's unlikely it can be repaired - Paul at eurocharged who have done a lot to my car suggested MB labour is likely to be over £10k , plus new seats, electrics as needed, carpets, etc.... For a car that is worth £20k (including my insured modifications) it's very unlikely it can be repaired - and to be honest I'm not sure I would want it - water is going to have sat in places it shouldn't and whilst not immediately obvious, things may manifest later on at my cost.
As soon as I'm given the nod for a cash sum, provided it's still for sale, I've my eye on a lovely SL65 though - every cloud and all that!
ETA: one must laugh about his car being flooded on Water Lane!

Yes, another poster mentioned that there are but they are very difficult to see - I spent a few minutes looking around for parking restriction signs as I always do and couldn't see any signs - I certainly would have spotted warning signs had they been clearly placed and/or prominent enough.And re. the naming of Water lane - I didn't know that was the name until after and, had I known, I certainly wouldn't have connected it!

The car dyno'd at ~550bhp and 600lb/ft so if you're interested then I'm happy to help you get your hands on the engine.
