Hi All

I've had an SLK AMG 55 since the beginning of this summer and really enjoy it but just lately
have felt the need for it to be a little louder under acceleration and at tickover whilst not being too much louder on a motorway cruise.

So - I am looking at an X pipe conversion at CKS in Watford.

Guess its a given that the resonator will be removed but what about the secondary cats.

Are they needed for emissions - is their removal going to make MOT time difficult.

Is there really any BHP gained by their removal?

Any pictures you have may help.

Thanks

Thanks for recommending Infinity but it really is too far for me to travel.

Also thanks for the advice on CKS.

Hi All

In the end - I cancelled my slot at CKS and had the modification done at EMP.

Very pleased with the work.

I had the resonator removed and left the secondary cats in place. Now have an X pipe
that sounds great.

Louder than standard, quite when cruising and a bit louder under acceleration.

Just what I wanted and half the price that CKS wanted.

EMP are in St Albans and have a nice set-up with a custom pipe bender and full TIG / MIG for this kind of work.

I do like a good flange but in this case I had it fully welded in.

I have some pictures - will add them later tonight.

An x pipe lets the two banks of cylinders achieve better exhaust scavenging via the pulse wave that travels at the speed of sound.

A bit more power.

Yes agree the bark on start up is great for waking up the neighbours.

Cant say I notice the MPG being any worse.

Hi Lee

Yes it's been a long time.

Love the x pipe. It louder on startup but I do not even notice the difference when cruising.

Sometimes I regret not having the secondary cats removed but then I actually prefer it a bit quieter
99% of the time.

Go for it - I am sure you will be happy with the difference.
