So need a car for the wife but not quite sure what to get. Was thinking about something like this:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

The question is though would you want to spend 9k on an old Merc or a new Merc.

For:
Nice car, nice colour
Looks clean and well maintained
QCar

Against:
Old car
Wife would not appreciate it, would prefer something new and shinny!
Maintenance lots!
No mod cons
Have to be careful (Avoiding scuffs, parking correctly)
10k on a old car!

Don't know your circumstances - but for me this is the weekend car - not the everyday school / shopping car. Very nice, but to be looked after carefully to maintain value moving forward, whilst enjoying it as much as you can. Would the wife appreciate a dog leg ?

I personally don't like the colour - no fan of silver, and would have liked to have seen the full leather inside, although the car still looks good. Having not been looking I can't say whether its well priced, or on the top side. But good 190's are now very much rising due to availability of well maintained specimen's. Mine was only a 2 ltr auto - sold due to lack of storage / use - but would have another at the drop of a hat.

Whatever you do, do not discuss the merits of any particular car.

Do not mention the naff clear front indicators and repeaters.
Do not speak of the Pirelli P6000 ditch finder rear tyres.
Certainly do not observe that the relationship of front wing to front bumper and bonnet suggests said wing is an inferior aftermarket replacement.
The defective off side headlamp wiper is probably off limits, too.
Likewise the irritating phone antenna in the rear screen.
And as for the miserable vendor, well, keep that to yourself.

Weather looks nice in his pictures doesn't it? Oops, probably best not to point out that it has been for sale for what seems like forever. I doubt you could even say that it looks like a fairly decent but far from perfect example that is possibly over-priced.
Excellent. Thank you.

By the looks of Mrs would prefer a RRS after all!
