Hi all

Looks like my E320, purchased only 3 weeks ago, is starting to exhibit the dreaded engine bay wiring loom issues.

There is no label that I can see with a part no so I rang the local dealer with my chassis no.

They will tell the price but WILL NOT tell me the part no.

£1848!!!! plus fitting.

can anyone with access to EPC help please?

Yes it's 1995 E320 saloon, with climate control (if that makes any difference), without cruise control. Also no ASR/ADS I don't think.

Only thing dealer will tell me is that it is NOT no. A124 440 2933 - but I've read that the dealers can get it wrong and say you need 124 440 5632 when you actually need 124 440 2933 and vice versa? I don't know.

Thanks for offering to help.

Jonathan - that's a great help, as always. Thank you.

Steve - got your pm and have replied, fantastic!

PositronicRay & Scotlandjim - thanks too.

My indy recommended me an autospark not too far away. Spoke to him and he's familiar with the issue and prepared to look at the car with a view to rebuilding the current one. So that's an option.

If I end up getting the whole thing sorted for significantly under £1k that'll be a result. Just 'effin annoying when you've only just bought the car, especially as I reckon paid over the odds to start with, but hey ho.

As interested fellow owner, what were/are the symptoms?
Nothing when the engine's cold, but when it warms up the tick-over gets a bit lumpy, then it can drop off a cylinder or 2. Obviously there are other faults that can cause the same symptoms, but I believe these are fairly typical of a failing wiring loom.

And from this morning a new symptom. I touched the temp sensor plug last night (and noticed the insulation had gone) and from this morning the cooling fan runs continuously.

And then on the way to work, a new and sinister symptom. The lighting circuit came out in sympathy and spat the driver's side indicator unit out onto the road!!! Just as well I have a spare or 2, eh?
