E63 AMG Eco & Start/Stop

I have just picked up my 2013 E63 and wondering a little on the Eco and start/stop function. When does the start/stop klick in and change from inactive to active? I drove about 45 miles and an hour before it became active.

I have also heard, that to save fuel, when Eco is active, the switches off 4 cylinders to help save fuel in certain driving modes such as a consistent speed on the motorway?
