Discussion
Been thinking / dreaming about buying an amg of some variety to use for a year or so which has led me to consider this: what amg car could you buy that wouldn't lose too much value within a year and be relatively easy to sell on? Mpg isn't necessarily an issue but potential big maintanence bills would be. With that in mind, ideally it'd be something that has been well maintained and has a good reputation for being reliable.
budget would be around £15k.
Thanks in advance

CLS55, Values have started (ever so slightly) starting to raise.
Drive it for a year and sell it for around the same as you paid. Its rare (under 400 made) and still turns heads.
Good suggestion, I'd been looking at these recently as I like the fact that they are supercharged and they seem will within budget. Is this engine/car quite solid? Or are there any known weak spots?Drive it for a year and sell it for around the same as you paid. Its rare (under 400 made) and still turns heads.
This is topic doesn't seem to suggest too much bother from the v8's?

I'm not wedded to the idea of a kompressor so would consider the naturally aspirated versions instead.

SLK55 is in budget, early R171 and no complex (financially large) suspension problems. if you're only planning on keeping for a year, should you get a big bill with any of the E Class based or SL models, it'd be an expensive short term ownership prospect.
Some have commented on SLK55's hanging around in classifieds for a bit so maybe harder to move on.
Guess if you need 4 seats it's not an option at all. Maybe C55 then. These are pretty cool and a classic sleeper.
any of the Kompressor models will always be more desirable but that potential huge bill could be off putting.
How come only a year if you mind me asking ?
Don't really fancy an SLK as I like a bit more space. I guess the big bills from an E or an SLS would be the airmatic but I reckon it's possible to find one that's already had the work done (or just get lucky and it not break)Some have commented on SLK55's hanging around in classifieds for a bit so maybe harder to move on.

As for the ownership thing, I have a bit of spare cash which I'll need to use when I move house in 12-18 months so thought i'd buy an interesting motor to use for a year. Hopefully one that won't depreciate to wildly.
I quite like the look of this one:

Sounds a bit cheap though.
This one may also be worth a look:

Especially as it's had some suspension work done.
