I'm looking for a mint 1.3, can't quite afford a Fanalone yet. Is there anything to watch for except the obvious? Nice ones seem quite rare, theres one on Jersey that may fit the bill. Thanks for any help! :-)

Thanks for the info guys, very useful. I feel like it could take some time to find the right car. I see later cars have different profile front wings around raised headlights. Like you say, condition is going to be the over riding factor whether its an S1 or later.

It was the Jersey car that first caught my eye, I've enquired about it and sounds worth viewing. 5% tax would be added to bring back to the UK.

Coupe 1600 HFS (fanalone) £2525

This looks nice;

That's the other one I'm going to look at, though it doesn't have a lot of history compared to the Jersey car. Nice colour combo.

This ones just come up: http://www.europeanclassiccars.co.uk/cars_41.html . Should HFs have extended arches?

The flared arches are to take the slighly wider wheel/tyres of the 1600 (vs the 1300) and were only on the S2 1600 bodyshells, although the Montecarlo 1300 sepcial edition also used the 1600 bodyshell (in the best tradition of using up unused bits on an SE smile ).

The plastic extension were only fitted to the S1 1.6's (Fanalones). These bodyshells didn't have the flared metal arches so to fit a wider wheel they were fitted with 13" (instead of 14") wheels but as they now stood proud of the (unflared) wing plastic extensions were fitted by the factory. To the best of my knowledge the plastic extensions were never offered on the S2 cars although they will fit.
Thanks! :-)

So......

did you buy one ?
I'm still looking.. I went to view the 1600HF yesterday. Its had alot spent on mechanicals and is very straight, no rust/rot. But it could really do with a total repaint and rechrome. I guess that would cost about £5k to do properly (or maybe more). I've been down that road with my Delta and don't really want to repeat the exercise. The option then is to look at 1300s, which I was doing originally. There is the car in Bournemouth and the one in Jersey, which I would like to view.

Thanks for that Bob. I would be happy with a 1.3 if I can find a nice one. I looked at the HF knowing for its price it would need money spent. It has made me realise I should stick to what I originally wanted if I want to keep to my budget.

Good luck with the search, if it were me I'd avoid the one with the sunroof - too much potential for problems.
You think so? That was the one I was most keen on viewing, I was just planning a trip over there of the day. Was a Webasto a standard option or is it aftermarket?

That one has more history than the car at Black & White..

I seriously appreciate your comments, it's not easy to find background on these cars. Maybe I shouldn't discount this one so much then http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C291719. At the end of the day I need to compare them both, but I do prefer the car to be the correct spec. I agree with what you say about the sunroof as it is obviously aftermarket then. I get the feeling my search could take some time :-/

Hi Alan. Thanks for your reply, I've looked at your site many times and will call you. Having viewed a few cars I totally agree with your comments. Trying to find a mint car, which is all I will accept, is proving impossible..!
