I think this may be my first thread on PH (back of the net)! Anyway, when cold and especially when changing into first, it takes a bit of effort to get into gear. The change is fine when the car is warm. Is this anything to worry about?

I had the gearbox oil changed during it's last service which was in June, this made the gearchange a bit better overall but didn't make a difference to the problem above. The car doesn't do that many miles, probably about 5k a year, 55k total. It's a 2006 car.

The problem is at it's worst when, for example, coming up to a set of lights and they change just as I'm about to stop. Changing into first when the car is slowly moving is an effort. Synchro problem?

Thanks for the advice. When I got it serviced the gearbox oil wasn't cheap, so I would assume that it was fully synth. But as that quote from Lock Stock says, I won't assume anything. I'll try giving my left leg a bit of an extra workout and see if that helps!
