GTV electrics - alarm?

I've had my S-reg GTV V6 for three years. I have never used the black box for central locking, preferring the key, and never put the radio on. All was well electrically, until recently. Three months ago, the light above the headlamp height adjuster started to flash continually. I now seem to have a battery drain, and the hazard lights come on when it is started - and also sometimes engage when driving in traffic.

Something similar happened with my Elan M100, the cure was to "simplify" the electrics (ie, a specialist disconnected some stuff, specifically the alarm). My local garage doesn't want to meddle with it, but is this an easy fix? - or symptomatic of something less clear?
