Got the new front corner undertray bits on fine, which is great. Now I have the wind deflectors in front of the wheels.
Unfortunately, I received my new diagnostic cable and software on Friday and I have been reading the fault codes on the car. It appears to need a new MAF sensor and 4 glow plugs :S
So that's now thermostats, badly refurbed wheels and then glow plugs and maf that have needed attention in the 6 weeks since buying the car. I'm not best pleased really.
The dealer has been less than helpful, and trying to use the AA Warranty is a ball ache as they want to go to one of their nominated repair centres rather than my choice of a BMW specialist. If I go to a specialist they will only pay £36 an hour labour towards the cost of repair so I end up more out of pocket than just doing it myself, it's ridiculous.
Why not just use the repair center? a MAF and glow plugs should be okay?Unfortunately, I received my new diagnostic cable and software on Friday and I have been reading the fault codes on the car. It appears to need a new MAF sensor and 4 glow plugs :S

Yeah, in fairness, they should. I will have to get booked in. I'm a bit worried that the AA Warranty may try to wriggle out of sorting it though if I tell them that I have read the codes myself with the laptop. I can't see any good reason for doing so, but you never know with these warranty co.'s do you?
I have a spare MAF that's nearly new - they're bloody expensive. I was just going to ebay it.
Where are you located? you're welcome to try it first.
If you're also in my area, I can highly recommend a tuner for the 535d, it's all live mapping and he can give you as much or as little increase as you want. My current map is just shy of 350hp and a little more than 710Nm.
Comfort seats are brilliant.

I'm in Leeds. I don't particularly want to spend any more of my own money on repairing things that should be right, but let me know how much you want for it if it's a Bosch one and I'll let you know what I think?Where are you located? you're welcome to try it first.

Who's your tuner? I'm leaning towards e-maps right now but would like to get all these little faults fixed first.

Does the car have a starting issue that would explain the glow plug codes as I have had those codes come up on nearly every BMW diesel I've scanned and none of them ever had starting issuesUnfortunately, I received my new diagnostic cable and software on Friday and I have been reading the fault codes on the car. The funny thing is, no, it doesn't have any starting or running issues that I have seen. It's just these codes keep coming back so I want it sorted before it does become a problem.
The only thing I've ever noticed is that it hunts at idle when first started. Other than that it's great and I'm still really enjoying driving it.

My 535d used to do this as well never worked out why but the car ran perfectly. Hope you get the issues sorted. The only thing I've ever noticed is that it hunts at idle when first started. Other than that it's great and I'm still really enjoying driving it.

I'm confused, did it have any lights up on the dash? Or did you just plug your laptop in and have a look around?I'm not surprised the salesman is giving you the silent treatment. Un-refurbed wheels not fit for purpose? Really???? Nightmare customer.
Eta. Just seen the car is 8 years old, it's a used car! If you want perfection (under trays in perfect nick and wheels immaculate) then you need to buy a new car.

To be honest I doubt you'll get anything out of the dealer now they have your money - the main dealer that I bought my E46 was great until I'd paid for the car. After that it was a battle to get anything done.
I think you may just need to chalk it up to experience, put the faults right and move on and enjoy your car which looks great by the way. The E60 has got better with age and yours has the nicest wheel option too.
With regards to the error codes - my E90 has thrown a wobly this week when the emission warning light came on but its now gone out and hasn't come back on. It's going in for a code read and the fuel smell to be investigated so god knows what it'll through up.

So why go looking for issues? Do you have a mechanical background?
Not professionally, but as a keen home mechanic I have reshelled an MR2 Turbo, removed an engine and gearbox, completely overhauled my E46's suspension, removed its swirl flaps, decatted it etc. etc.I'm far from an expert, but competent enough to get most things done. Reading fault codes etc. is just a bit of a habit I've got into as I like things to be spot on and it's so easy to check, why wouldn't you? That's my feeling on it, anyhow.

No that's the strangest thing. The codes are present and they come back if cleared, but no warning lights light up.
has the light been blanked off?Court_S said:

You may well be right but I certainly don't have any reservations about trying to get some help. Perhaps I haven't worded things as well as I thought I had, but I'm not trying to be the thorn in their side etc. Just looking to be helped out a bit.
I'm just curious as to why without any training, you want to go looking for fault codes? Can you not just enjoy your new car?
And how do you pose the question to the warranty company? 'Hi, I've got no warning lights up on my dash, but you need to replace my injectors as there's a historic fault code on the OBC I found when I plugged my laptop in'. It is possible that the injectors have been replaced or cleaned out already.
Apologies if it sounds like I'm having a pop, I just don't follow your mindset?
