Since I was a very small boy I've been obsessed with the 250 GTO. What an exquisite machine, but an exquisite racing machine. Love seeing period shots of them earning their keep, collecting scrapes along the way, wearing their scars with pride.

I think that was at Clermont Ferrand after his accident in Spain 69. The head injury took a while to get over as it affected his vision somewhat.


Also, that picture of the McLaren at Monaco was from the Thursday practice session as the high wings were banned after that session.

it just seems an interesting series, rally/rallyx I am guessing, vs. circuit racers, are there any photos, entry lists etc?

Crossed wires somewhere , the Motoring News Stage Championship in 90/91 was purely stage events . no mixing and matching and certainly no rallycross , rounds were iirc , West Cork , Imber , Tour of Cornwall ,Mewla(epynt),Wexford, K and N filters(pembrey), and Otterburn .

The Ears Motoring News Championship was a tarmac rally championship based in the UK with a couple of events in Southern Ireland on the closed roads. It was a standard rally championship ('standard' as in run in the same manner as most other rally championships, not 'standard' as in standard cars) with one exception, a once a year race at Oulton Park hence the above pictures.

The championship still runs with different sponsors as below

No, there was never a race included in the championship , where are you getting this info from ? Took part on the tarmac (motoring news)series on and off from 87 through to 92 and never was there a race at Oulton Park as a round .

I'll do some more digging about this event. I don't know whether it was a race or just a special stage where the cars started alongside one another.
