I wasn't even a dirty thought back then . Some of my teachers must've been there when you were, Godsmark, Hadfield, Bywater? Think they were there when free education was invented!
All of those ! Camper than most, but Pete Hadfield was a very good footballer in his day.
I always got on well with Steve Bywater - used to see him riding his bike along the A27 upto maybe 3 years ago.
And old Godsmark (built for comfort, not for speed) - gobsmacked his ticker hadn't given up in the 17 years since I left. Did he still take his classes in the shed down the far end of the car park ? Never forget his drama classes and the ridiculous relaxation exercises - 'open your eyes, acclimatise, and sit up'.
Happy days..

The only thing that really sticks in my mind was the prefab huts by the playground. We use to take cheese sandwiches in and heat them on the radiators in there, they were kind of like five bar heaters with a token chicken wire guard on them to stop anyone inadvertently touching them. At least, until all 6 of them set on fire one night and we gota free day off school!

I went to the same school that produced Mark Knopfler and Alan Shearer. The latter being in my year. I've not done as well as them but hey.
A fantastic school. Genuine mixed ability. The less able were encouraged and those who wanted to fly were pushed to get where they wanted. There were some legendary teachers, the sort that cared about you and you them. I failed an A level and had to re-sit. I really felt I'd let my teacher down, but they patiently picked up the pieces and worked with me to get the result I wanted.

My eldest son has just finished his first year at Thornden. I went to Toynbee.Jonboy_t said:
My wife went there . Would've left in 1998/99.
Ah, I left in 2008, my cousin left around 98 I think. Every time I go past when I'm visiting my parents there's another building popped up! When I was there they'd just finished building a cinema/theatre. I probably didn't appreciate it at the time, but it was a decent school

Same school as Ed Sheeran. He was in the year below me, his music was alright, but he was an arrogant knobend when I was at school.
