Are automotive Youtubers loosing their USP?

I can't bear any of them, they're all highly irritating and offer no real insight other than acting like teenage girls. Case in point.

I think this garbage is more tailored to the aspirational/lifestyle crowd that seem to think they can get rich easy by sticking a camera in their face and uploading it on youtube. The whole supercar chasing and sucking up to the owners is boring. I went around Mayfair with a DSLR to take pictures a few years back and got bored after a day and questioned what I was doing with my life.
Give me MCM any day.
I've just unsubbed him after subbing a couple of months back. I don't understand how anybody can watch this mundane crap.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFEcRpAYT0o

BTW did anybody see the Ford Ranger review by Marty and Moog on their mcmtv2 channel? That's entertainment.
Also big thanks to Pauljc84 for that automotive erection, wowsers!

Amongst the good ones already mentioned Chris harris, Roadkill, Smoking Tyre, Might car mods etc I would add 'The dude in blue' He's an American guy only reviews modified cars, proper car enthusiast, who has a big project on the go, and generally comes across as a proper down to earth car enthusiast.
Yeah been watching him for a long long time, love his videos and can even suffer his vlog sometimes.Does anybody watch Haggard Garage or RicerMiata?

Good thread.
I'm lucky enough to occasionally make motoring videos. I hate the 'usual' format other posters describe in this thread, and try to do things differently. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. I am not a pro. I don't do new car reviews because, frankly speaking, I find them dull and would struggle to find something to say that hasn't been said already. I pick my films. That means I research, write and present things I like. This is great fun.
For example - I recently did a three part series about a roadtrip; The forgotten racetracks of France, in a Maserati QP. Here's part 1. Parts 2 and 3 to follow...
I'd honestly be grateful for feedback (yeah, I look like an old, hungover Marty McFly and sound a bit Brummy, I know
)

The best Youtube videos I've watched recently were the ones by Charles Morgan on Carfection.

I knew what the replies to this thread would be just by reading the opening post. I wouldn’t expect the likes of Shmee, SOL or STG to attract a fan base from PistonHeads members. I mean you only have to watch one of Shmee’s car collection videos where the ‘spec’ is discussed more than driving dynamics to work that out.
Most of us don’t care whether it has the optional carbon fibre driving surround or Nero leather with Rosso stitching; we want to see it taken to the red line on a beautiful road or thrown around a track – á la Chris Harris. FWIW, I agree in that I find most of these POV vlog style reviews boring, but I can appreciate what they do and who they’re targeting – plus you can’t deny some have made a pretty penny doing it!
Chris Harris, Harry’s Garage (he should post more!), TheSmokingTire, /DRIVE, EVO etc. are what I expect the typical PistonHeads user to watch and enjoy – I know I do.
I think though Mighty Car Mods has to be my personal favorite. There recent Stagea build was simply brilliant, I was totally captivated for the whole 14 episodes. If you haven’t watched it, do so: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvKTvFJhZUJ...

Here's my view on some of the aforementioned Youtoooobers:
1. Schmee. I quite like some of his content such as collecting Ferraris etc. but he's gone a little bit 'journo' now with invitations to press drives. And stupid as it is, I just can't deal with his lisp. It's just too annoying. He comes across as a nice chap though.
2. SoL. Daft videos which generally consist of wobbly camera to his face and not much in the way of interesting new stuff to talk about. Tends to just focus on talking about what car he's going to buy next and what roadtrips he's planning. Oh and exhausts/wraps. He's got a decent personality though and I can sort of see why it's an appealing channel for a certain audience because it's basic and a bit 'tabloid'. A bit like ITVBe.
3. Seen Through Glass. Good grief this guy just drones on forever. Some of his videos are really s
t because he spends 90% of them drumming home one point over and over again. Also consists of wobbly camera filming his face. He has the odd comical moment but generally his lack of car knowledge or original content just means his uploads are just filler-type dross. I subscribed for a very short while but his vids really are way too long and uninspiring so I cancelled after about a week!
4. Seb Delanney. Never subscribed to him as he's just bloody annoying to watch. Appears on the above three's videos flicking his hair out of his eyes all of the time.
5. Mr JWW. Appears to be tagging along with 1-4 above a little more recently such as their trip to Geneva recently. Can't say I've watched much of his stuff although he seems a decent bloke. Time will tell on that one.
So there's the main ones that've been discussed quite a bit already. Here are some that I actually enjoy.
6. Jay Leno's garage. Really enjoyable long-form videos meeting small independent car makers of some interesting projects. He's very knowledgeable himself (and super rich) but he comes across very well.
7. The Smoking Tire (sic). Matt Farah's 'One Take' video series are very good. A great idea of getting regular new content showcasing random punter's (often modified) cars. They're filmed in one go (hence the 'one take' name) with Matt driving them around some California canyon roads without (much) editing. Short, snappy, to the point and with a good sense of humour, they're actually really quite fun.
8. Harry's Garage. Great stuff to watch Harry Metcalf occasionally reviewing some lovely modern or old metal that he's either bought himself or borrowed. Harry's obviously a very nice chap and has great mechanical knowledge, offers good insights from things like specific car nuances and his videos are really down to earth from a bloke who has made his living through his love of cars (and his farm).
9. Nick Murray. This is a little leftfield one which I stumbled across. Nick is some sort of IT chap who lives in Connecticut but is from New Zealand. I think I started watching his stuff when he was posting videos of his 991 which was having some problems. He's now got an M4 which he's posted various things about but he also often reviews other people's cars too. He also reviews helicopters occasionally! He takes the piss out of himself, even reading out some funny YT comments from keyboard warriors which can be pretty amusing. It's a channel which essentially is made by the fact that he seems like a genuinely nice bloke who loves cars and doesn't take himself too seriously.

Shmee can f
k off. Seen through glass does my head in he cant even speak correctly and he is a stuck up w
ker. I think they all suck tbh. Only ones I like these days are proper reviews - the Getawayer, Auto Top NL. And the noise vids like NM22555555555 and a select few other channels. Really am not interested in the lives of those bell sniffs.

Out of those vlog type videos Harry's Garage is probably the best as he can drive anything without coming across as a snob.
Didn't see Davide Cironi get mentioned in this thread so I'll do it.
Loads of cars most PH-ers would love, understandably Italio-centric but anyone who can sound as passionate about a Fiat Uno as he can is alright by me.

His review of the rs7 was hilarious - it was a poor, and cringe worthy attempt, at copying Chris Harris.

This is something that has recently crossed my mind. I am an avid car fan and I am a subscriber to the following channels;
Shmee150
Supercars of London
Seen Through Glass
Mr JWW
I have been subscribed to these channels for sometime, however I have recently found myself becoming bored of watching exactly the same content, just from a different POV.
I originally subscribed to these channels as they were each in theri own way different. Unfortunately now it seems that every trip / test drive, they are all in attendance.
From their point of view, being involved in other Youtubers videos has helped significantly increase their audience, however I cant help but think that this is also causing them to lose their unique selling point? Has anyone else had these same thought?
I too have followed all these for a while and completely agree. On a recent trip Supercars of London and Seen Through Glass went on a trip, went to great lengths explaining that each channels videos would be different. Each day the videos could have been carbon copies. I do enjoy the road trip videos, as i'd like to do a lot more road tripping myself. (Once a year for Le Mans isn't enough). Shmee150

It would be better if they were all just on one channel but i'm aware that wont pay each individuals bills as their advertising power is quadroupled when each has their own channel.

Speed academy is another brilliant one, they build cars in depth for race series, and actually race them.
They've done some amazing builds, currently they're Showing the process of a 930 turbo engine rebuild, they've also shown how to rebuild an RX7 rotary engine. Build Gt86 race cars, start to finish S2000 project, aswell as reviewing cars on track, they're genuine car enthusiast who definitely will apeal to the PH type.
