Same aircraft - in its final operational scheme. Red and yellow is the coilour applied to UK military drone aircraft (most famously, the now retired Jindviks.

The yellow one is Air/Sea rescue... they trail a rope behind and fly very low and you have to grab it and hang on nuts

You get to safety very quickly but your arms drag on the ground for some time afterwards.

Maybe we can get McDonalds to sponsor an SR-71 and get one airworthy again.

Ironically that's probably the hottest due to the speed it travels!
Coolest plane is probably the Dornier Wal flying boat lost by Amundsen's expedition 150 miles from the North Pole in 1925.

Went to Duxford last weekend and actually touched the one they have in the American flight hanger, BEST. PLANE. EVER. yes

Sad I know, but had to as its hardly cordended off and you can walk all round and under it (Although you have to duck to do that as its quite low)

Stood inside the wheel bay of the B-52 as well, not sure why.. maybe because I could. Quite an impressive set of hydraulics going on there.

The wheels on the B-52 can be angled to allow the plane cope with crosswinds.

It would be foolish to belive that they are all grounded. Whilst sat's can produce the same quality (or better) images you have to wait for them to be in the right place at the right time... and anyone with some brains knows when and where they'll.

My personal theory is that they grounded and musemed a few of the older airframes then upgraded the systems as much as possible on the newer ones... which are currently roaring over NK and other trouble spots.

They're still using the older TR1's (newer versions of the U2) for sneaky pictures. So don't have to rely on Sat pics.

There are no flying SR-71s. They don't need them. Apart from the satellite systems and the U-2s (all the TR-1s have been redesignated U-2Rs), the US military now have a range of "robot" recconaissance aircraft such as the Global Hawk which can perform the tasks originally alocated to the SR-71.
