Der, what's your website? I know it's been dotted around these forums, but not sure what to search for.
Not sure why no-one's posting the link, but it's here if you want to take a look at his site.

Der: any reason you don't sell the Sony Bravia's?

I purchased a TV from Der and all I can say from the shopping experience is that he has a bloody quick car!

And also the prices were very good!

Der... or anyone else for that matter...

I have been looking at this samsung but in the 26inch size with built in freeview... anyone have any thoughts on this? I see you stock the larger screen size Der, but not the one i'm after..

Interested to know anyone's thoughts on it - I think it's a stunning TV, and for me personally that's a big thing as you spend a lot of time looking at it!! It also means one less box as freeview built in

Cheeky,

Best (PH) deals on HD Ready 26" sets are the Panasonic TX-26LXD52 and it's genetic sibling, the JVC LT-26DS6.

The latter is uber chic but both deliver the joint best performance from any current 26.

Much cheapness via my profile...

{The Sammy may look ok but watch it flail against the best Samurai sets.}

Oh bugger, if I knew that Der, I would have come to you.

Just bought a 15" LCD and a 23" HD LCD by Samsung. Quite like their current range.

Running two 40" HD LCD Samsung's above my desk at work and thinking of getting one for home. What's your opinion on those units Der?? Good value??

Might have to give you a call for some advice on HD DVD's and cables etc etc..

Oh and BTW Der, do you sell the wall mounting kits for LCD's?? I will need some for the two I just bought.

My TV got delivered today - the latest model from Samsung LG40M61BX, its 40'' LCD with surround sound system that alone cost £1200

I can take pix once its up on the wall, as its still in boxes everything. Probably can do that after this Friday, once electrician sorts it out.

The contract ratio is 5000:1 and the quality is stunning.

P.S. Looks like there's no manual to the TV, only sound system. Need to call to the store tomorrow.

As for sound - total output is 800W! My neighboroughs will love that I think

Well actually both pass the visual test for me... although I'll probably go and try find them instore locally to see if i like them in the flesh... or Plastic!

Looks like with the differences in shipping costs they are both coming out at near as damn it the same price anyway, and the only difference other that that I can really see are connection opportunities. Is that pretty much it?

I'll initially just be hooking up my slimline PS2 but in future a DVD recorder too and possibly surround sound speakers. Would both sets also offer this scalability?

Thanks again for such a quick response

I have a Sony enhanced definition plasma (852x480). Bought on the net from California in Oct 04, for $1800. Model PFM42V1-B. My main criteria was that the plasma had to work on 240v so I could bring it back to the UK. The Sonys are 110/240 much like PCs.

Panasonics over here are 110v only, otherwise I would have gone with the Panasonic over the Sony as it had better reviews. I think the Panasonic model number was TH-42PWDY or something like that.

Note these two are both MONITORS, so you need some kind of set-top box / PAL tuner.

How is the plasma? Really good, but like someone said, put a quality LCD or LCD-rear projection (DLP) next to it and it's noticable that the LCD and DLP are better.

However, I had a $250 27" CRT before, so anything is good compared to that.

@ Derestrictor - How much for a UK mains lead for my Sony PFM42V1 please?

Lesson 1-Dont trust the reviews (advertising and jollies go along way...)

I bought a 42" plasma 3 years ago. At the time I read all the reviews in the world and the Panasonic came out on top BUT I decided to go and see for myself. I watched the Panasonic and an NEC next to each other-playing the same DVD etc. The NEC (although it didnt get the best reviews) was much better. I saved £400 by buying the NEC and got an extra year of warranty.

Lesson 2-Its all in the connections

Having got the thing, it played DVDs brilliantly-sharp and crisp. However, SKY was appalling-I had a "what have I done" moment...then I did some research. Its all about how you connect the various boxes to the Plasma that makes so much difference. With a bit of jiggery pockery (bought an RGB splitter from Keene) I achieved 100% improvement.

I have yet to watch a large screen plasma with as sharp and natural picture as the set up I have. The problem is that so few places have the sets set up as they should be. Even at Richer sounds they cannot demonstrate the speakers on sets as there is no sound connectivity...how pi$$ poor is that. I guess things will change as HD comes on line.

Mr Derestrictor is I believe the established expert on these forums, and has his own shop as well
I bought from him, as many other PHers have done. He has a large turnover and very mall margins, which equals a very good price.

And you'll be hard-pressed to find a finer service.
I agree on all counts. He also gives decent advice after rambling about cars for half an hour

Save yourself a fortune and get the 436RXE, an analogue, integrated version of the above for under £2k with exactly the same performance credentials.

It's fookin' ace: in fact, I'm pilfering one later today so I can finish orf The X-Files (series 6) with a flourish.

For even more 'much cheapness,' the Hitachi 42PD6600 is a bit of a steal at under £1250 (call it £1199 in PH money) but only two dozen left.

The 'step-up' Hitachi's (42PD7200/7500) are nice too, featuring remote controlled, swivel pedestal mounts, tres 007.

Old faves like the Panasonic 42PV500 continue to impress at the higher end but it's an almost unnecessary expenditure in the face of genetically similar outpourings fom other members of the Matsushita dynasty, namely JVC and their rather fetching PD42DX6, sublime visual nookie at only £1450 (although any man with a CTR to hand could always haggle, I suppose )

The exception which proves the {larger screened) LCD v plasma rule is another JVC unit, the LT37DS6 (yep, a mere 37" beastie) which on high def or reasonable 'progressive scanned' DVD is simply ball bouncing.

My mother has one, upon which she spends hours dissecting the text of Raw Deal, the lucky mare!

Toodle chin & keep yon anvils hugely acute.

I'm going to buy a Pioneer 436XDE (or rather, going to have one bought for me as a birthday present )as soon as I can find a web store that has it in stock. I think the RXE with the integrated tuner has fewer inputs, only one HDMI input vs. two on the XDE. Cheapest price I've found is £2268 including the stand and speakers.

Derestrictor, would you be able to beat that?

I've been tempted on many occasions on taking one of them home!!

Rather well priced and look tasty, just waiting to see Der's opinion on these units before I purchase one.
