We need a big car as have another little un on the way, i am tempted by an audi but £58K christ thats a lot of money - especially when its only going to be worth 30k in 2 yrs!

I cant decide but for 23k its a straight choice between a AMG C43 Merc, slightly higher mileage E55 AMG saloon or a 2.7TT A6 Avant, answers or better suggestions appreciated!

Benno, you could consider the new S4 I've ordered for the spring if you can still get one - they're only making 200 odd. You can have it in saloon or estate. Should be 36k ish plus options, but comes with 4.2V8, 344bhp, 410Nm, 6 speed, 4x4, 18'' alloys, leather etc. By the time you have sat nav etc reckon on 40k all in. Apparenty it's been tuned on the 'ring for driving fun and posts the same times as the new M3. It'll be as nippy but more fun / better handling than RS6. Residuals should be much better too.

The RS6 is just another turbo saloon with lots of power and grip but not much else. The claimed 4.7s to 60 is also fake independant tests have shown over 5s and 12 to 100.BMW M5 does 4.9 /11.5 and it is rear drive and handles aswell.

"Just another turbo saloon"?

My arse.

It's beautifully built, with elegant good looks, and a fantastically appointed interior.

Even my S4 was a thing of beauty, both inside and out, with the added advantage that, no matter what it was cirrently doing, or what the road conditions were, it coud flatten 95% of all vehicles you'd meet without changing down gears.

Yes, there are faster cars, and more luxurious ones, but an RS6 will still beat virtually anything else you come across, if you're that way inclined.

Think of it as an Evo VII, but not for oiks, and with a decent amount of power.

An A6 4.2 Quattro Avant is also a fairly lovely thing, and at two or three years old fits the same budget.
