I thought it was a good episode. Not much car reviewing going on but the race was entertaining enough and the DBR9 was brilliant. And as a bonus Clarkson's driving will no doubt drive the lentalists crazy.
...hands up all the people who have honesty never driven home when tired, had a kit kat or mars bar at the wheel, or drunk a red bull/coffee to stay awake a bit longer?
Funnily enough one of the researchers has just posted an exact reply on another forum, I trust its okay me quoting him:

We'd loved to have put the DBRS9 round the TG track but unfortunately they haven't built a runner yet and the car we had in the studio was just a show car with no engine.
As far as the race goes, some people do get furrow browed about how we get the shots of the cars during its journey. Well, for the less mentally creative who haven't yet worked out this one, I'll let you into a secret. The interior filming and some of the tracking shots are done during the race. The more arty time consuming stuff is done on the return leg back to the UK when they've got more time to make it look nice. Next time I'll fill you in on why Coronation Street isn't a real place.

He was tailgating a yellow Monaro. I suspect that may have been the camera car.
Not sure, I saw a black Ranger Rover a couple of times, probably needed for all the kit.
But totally agree with the comments above, if they drive there they have to come back so they do the arty shots on the way back. Clarkson doesn't even need to be around for most of them.
I thought the programme ws hilarious. If you dont take it as a deadly serious car programme and lighten up a little you cant help but laugh, espiecially when Hammond was throwing up on the boat.
Who cares if it really was a race, it was good, entertaining television. My sister hates cars and would never watch Top Gear but last night she did and found it funny.

Wearing my cynical hat, I didn't see any projectile vomit and there was none on his jacket collar tips (which, if you remember, did protrude sufficiently to get in the way). When he grinned there was no evidence of stomach juice on either his teeth or lips. But he did look more pale than usual.

I didn't see anything wrong with his driving,
Doh.
Leaving aside the
1. tailgating
2. Two hands off the steering wheel
3. Eating while driving
4. Drinking a can of something while driving
there was the absolutely horrendous lane discipline, which was plainly visible time after time after time.
To be honest, it wouldn't matter much what car you drive from UK to Oslo.
The only place where the car matters is Germany, where he only got it to 160 mph, which isn't much for a 200+ mph car.
Everywhere else, he could have been sat in a Ford Mundao and got there faster, because he wouldn't have had to stop for fuel so often.
Speed limit for Norway is 90 kmh.
Bring back William Woollard. I only watch because I believe it can only get better. The real downer is that Fifth Gear doesn't offer an improved service. I don't need the dumbed-down version.
When I buy a car magazine, I buy it for the articles, the group tests. Not because someone might mention hard-ons and going sideways. Some (very) nice photography on TG last night, but... shame about the lack of journalism. When JC first started appearing on TG he was the naughty boy who had outrageous views and said naughty words. Quite funny, in moderation. Now the general public think that being a motoring enthusiast involves being on the lowest rung of the evolutionary ladder.
'The Cool board': oh dear.
'Star in a reasonably priced car': mildly amusing - would be better if they actually showed how the sleb improved. Made it into more of an intro to race driving.
'The Race': don't you think it will be so much better in the magazine, when we get the details of the whole journey, rather than some ranting?

Which forum is that?
I enjoyed last nights show even though it was totally unbalanced. It's all very nice racing round europe in a flash motor that no real person can afford but don't make it last 40 minutes FFS! More car tests please, even if they're fairly normal/everyday motors; like what TG used to do.

You take the mondeo and I'll go in an SLR. Want to make a bet on who gets there first?
Yeah ok. You supply both cars. I'm free in a couple of weeks.
A tenner says a Ford Mundano does it faster. About 80 % of the journey is in speed limited countries. A Ford Mundano is much more inconspicuous at going fast.
On UK motorways, I've never seen a Porsche 911 doing more than 65 mph. Wish I had a tenner for everytime I've seen a Vauxhall Tedious doing 90 mph.
