Can't help you at the moment. Am getting a Carnewal mod fitted next week so will let you know then if it's any good. They are highly recommended but it's a modification of the standard system rather than a new system. They do claim a modest power increase but it's mainly about a better noise.

Other than that Remus and Awe have been mentioned but are a tad boomy apparently. JZ Machtech can source a hand made system from Germany which they say is the elephants danglies but it's about £1500.

Here's the link to Carnewal anyway.

Good luck

Hi roadrunner. The Carnewal GT exhaust that cayamanator is having fitted to his cayman is for the 987 only. It's an internal modification to the back back including removing the secondary cats. I'm not sure if Gert has one for the 986, but highly likely. I have the GT exhaust on my Boxtser 987 3.2 and it sounds amazing.

Thought I'd dropped a clanger then but Carnewal does a 986 mod too. From his site-

"P86 "GT" Exhaust

The GT exhaust is a reworked original exhaust, modified in our workshop. From the outside, it looks just like stock but the internals are changed to a better breathing, less restrictive exhaust.
The result is a louder and deeper sound with no reasonance.
This exhaust does not trigger check engine lights does not give you any problems during the yearly technical inspection.

This exhaust is internally modified !
No plumbing tubes on the outside....

Price Europe: 390 Euro installation and VAT included."

TB. After reading what you and others have said, I can't wait to get mine done. Am fitting a BMC air filter too for good measure although I'm not sure if that will make any difference to the in car induction noise.

Great stuff. Never seen/heard a car with one on it, but I'd imagine it'll sound similar then. Sorry about that!

P.S. You are going to love the sound - transforms the car IMO!

Another vote for Carnewal.

I got the GT-mufflers fitted to my 987 S and the difference is chalk and cheese. There's a lovely burble on the overrun and the occasional backfire to boot. A lovely, cultured note. Sounds like a Porsche should sound and the 100 cell cats allow for better breathing to release a few extra ponies (17 bhp according to Gert). A friend has a Cayman S with a PSE fitted but the Carnewal system has a superior sound in my opinion.....he agrees too.

It works on a core exchange basis - the mufflers get sent across from Belgium and you have 4 weeks from the arrival date to send the original mufflers back. As long as your parts are in good working order, Gert will then refund the agreed amount. I stay in Glasgow and, to my surprise and delight, it cost less than £40 to courier back to Belgium. All in, just under £400 - fitting yourself will bring this down further.

There really is no better alternative for the money.

Sconzo. Completely agree - better than PSE and I love the burble though it costs me in petrol! smile

So you have the 100 cell cats? Is your car a 3.2 or 3.4 and Gen I or Gen II?

How much did you pay for the cats?

Hi TB303. Mine is a Gen 1 3.2 987. I got the mufflers fitted last August (cost as above) and at the time of purchase, Gert only did the 100 cell cats (they come included with the GT Muffler package). He has since introduced the 200 cell system (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lwIG4GDoVQ) - the 100 cell is a bit louder and the tone is slightly higher.

Incidently, Gert suggested the following when I inquired about additional upgrades to compliment the GT Mufflers:

Apart from a BMC air filter, another good upgrade is the Sport = RS60 = 987-2 S exhaust tip.

You know, the “TT” pipe instead of the “T”.

That also increases the air flow a bit as the left and right flow are no longer squeezed through one tube.

The GT exhaust uses 100 cell cats and that does not give you any problems with emissions, CEL’s or MOT.

It adds 17HP and it’s better flowing which results in a better throttle response.

Regards,
Gert

Thanks sconzo. Yep, gert sent me the link to that car a while back - definitely sounds very "de-corked" with the being free-er flowing....

I've got one of these Remus for my 987 cayman

http://www.remusuk.com/model.asp?id=Cayman%20S%203...

They do something similar for the boxster models;
2.7l 2006> (241 bhp)
Facelift 2.9l 2009> (252 bhp)
S 3.2l 2006> (276 bhp)
S Facelift 3.4l 2009> (306 bhp)

Slight drone below 1500rpm... relatively quiet between 1500-3000 (raspy) and sounds like a bandshee above 3000rpm. Lovin' it

I fitted the BMC air filter this afternoon. There's a definite but subtle improvement to the induction noise and possibly a slight improvement in throttle response, although the latter maybe my imagination. Still £60 well spent just for the noise. Only took 10 minutes to fit and I'm no mechanic.

Next week I'm off to see Gert and I can't wait.

Me too! Going down the 'Gert' route too, but not for a few weeks.

Still deciding whether to go for sports cats (100 or 200 cell) or not. Do a lot of motorway driving and have young kids to disturb when I drive into garage. My old 996 PSE (always on loud and unplugged) was a good balance of sound/volume so interesting to know how standard Carnewal GT muffler stacks up.
