Also, I was considering buying a piece of string, how long do you think that might be?

Seriously though, I'm thinking of buying a boat. Something like a 20ft Norman or a 22-23ft Freeman. I've been boating all my life with my parents and now I live in the Norfolk broads it'd be nice to get my own but was considering one I could trailer.
So there's my question.
22ft fibreglass hull, 2-4 berth boat. How much do you think it would weigh? And I mean actually physically weigh, not the max. displacement of the hull.

If it had an outboard, maybe I could take it off if it made any diference.

Thanks, Dan

I had a 22 ft Shetland on the broards, sorry dont know its weight but I towed it easily with my hilux surf. And that was with outboard plus all the crap inside.

Sold this and moved onto a 25ft 4 berth cruiser, cant remember make, we had to bring it up from the Medway in kent and I know it weighed in at 4.2 ton.

Ooh, now as the owner of a Freeman 23 I can answer that! It's more than quoted due to weight of water, fuel, stores etc, and the fibreglass will have absorbed moisture over the years - so about two tons.

Here's mine going back in with the aid of a fk-off crane:

Of course a chunk of that is the inboard engine (most 23s have a marinised Ford 1100 petrol engine called a Watermota) - so if yours was outboard powered you'd save a chunk. However I have only ever seen one Freeman with an outboard as sole power source; it must have been a special order.

I would have said about 2 to 2.5 tons as well, including engine.

It's not worth taking an outboard off though, duck fart in a hurricane.
