Seems they thought the kettle temp was more important. Baffles me as well after having one on my 3.2 and was useful for knowing when full beans could be applied biggrin

Not really an answer here, moreover some thoughts.
You can determine if the oil is up to operating temp by trying to perform an oil level check from the OBC. It'll only allow this, when the oil is up there - doesn't tell you what "there" is though!
Perhaps the lack of temp gauge is related to the fact that the Turbo is a dry sump engine?? Can't think of anything sensible though.

I don't think that can be the reason - 964 is too, but it has a temp gauge.

I wonder if it's any more complicated than the target consumer of the 996 onwards range of Porsche? Much more the Merc / BMW type than the old days and I doubt they're used to oil temps.

It only works when the car is stationary though.

I think it is nothing more than a space issue. AFAIK the 997 has an oil temp gauge but it is at the expense of the voltmeter. Seems like you can have it all.....

But you know that when it tells you the car needs to be stationary to complete the check, that the oil is up to temp.

That's what I do, and it always seems to come up to temp when the engine temp is around 82

Wondered this myself and yet the wife's Cayenne Turbo does have one, however I suspect that between home and Waitrose she is probably not paying it much attention smile

I'd certainly prefer it to the voltmeter.

I have a brand new (& fecking expensive!) battery in mine - I don't really care about what that gauge is showing. Oil temp is infintely more useful on a car of this type.

Air cooled have oil temperature guages so that you guage the temperature of the engine.

Water cooled do it via water temperature.

Its as simple as that no?

No.
We'd like to know the temperature of the oil as well as the coolant temperature if that's alright....

And when my battery went flat overnight and I had had no previous warning anything was amiss via the voltmeter, the guy who replaced the battery said that a volt meter was next to useless because there were many ways a battery could go flat when the meter was showing normal.

On the subject of having a low voltage, when mine was left for a few weeks... the battery went down a bit.... the stereo didnt work until the battery had charged back up.. I wasn't sure what the hell was going on, but after 5 minutes of charge/driving it was back on, (well it turned on, but no sound)
