V12 special to cost £330k, and they'll make 150 of 'em
Aston Martin seems set to pitch (possibly predictably) its dramatically styled new V12 Zagato pretty much right at the top of its range, with a price tag of £330k pencilled in.
According to Dutch site Autoweek.nl, who broke the story, Aston Martin will also keep its collaboration with the Italian styling house limited to 150 units.
Which is probably a sensible thing, given that such a price tag is near-on twice as much as a DBS, the next rung down on the Aston Martin ladder, and two-and-a-half times what it'll cost you to get into a V12 Vantage - the car on which the Zagato is based. It also leaves only the super-exclusive One-77 above it in both rarity and cost.
And if you're wondering whether production plans for the new Aston Martin are officially official, so to speak, just take a look at Aston's own website, and you'll find the Zagato nestling proudly in the company's official product portfolio...
So, is the price of a decent detached house worth it for a re-bodied Vantage? That's a question which we'll leave you - and those thinking about actually buying one (the Aston, not a detached house) - to decide...
2.5 times the price of V12 Vantage. Ouch! Still, if they sell at 150 then one can argue the price isn't too high. I won't be one of the buyers but do think the car looks good.
Why didn't they just use this design for the next model of DB9? That way they'd have evolved it just like the 911 has over the years. The problem they have created for themselves is that now have to come up with something else, better than this for the next facelift - but then if they do achieve that then these 150 cars will depreciate rather fast!
Aston is a dreary company reproducing the same underpinnings of a car in many similar skins .... A shame ... They need to wake up
Ferrari, lambo and jag can do it .... Lotus is 'upgrading' so why not.
Shame
I see your point but actually I think this is the pretiest Aston made in years and whilst it shares some styling elements in common with other Astons I think it is intended more to reflect old Zagato styling.
I love it and lets be honest if you can afford to buy any Zagato the price will never worry you, if you have to ask you can't afford it.
Not the biggest fan of this car, but the price seems fairly reasonable for what it is imo. I'm sure they wont have any difficulties in selling them all.
Personally think the DB9 and Vantage are still up to date so why mess with that, the car looks great and Im a big fan of Aston but really if I had that sort of paper I'd be looking else where.
Without knowing much about Aston, it strikes me this model (along with the Toyota) could be interpreted as AM clutching at straws to make a few bob as I doubt much is new bar the Zagato body. It also makes the new Lambo look like a complete bargain, even if they are different cars.
am i the only one who thinks that the rear 3/4 view looks horrible? much prefer the Vantage, DB9 et al styling at the rear. and the front too actually.
price wise....considering only 150 being made it's pretty well priced. the cost involved in designing it, setting all the tooling and machinery up for just 150 etc is all going to be very expensive, lots of people seem to forget this!
I think it is worth being reminded just how much attention the body work is receiving, staggering:
Pistonheads: Aston Martin V12 Zagato Revealed said:
Featuring a new handcrafted aluminium body, the V12 Zagato would not be possible using pre-formed panel techniques - every panel is formed using an English wheel and traditionally crafted body bucks. Each front wing alone comprises seven separate pieces of aluminium, combined and then hand finished to give one flowing form.
Another iconic Zagato design cue is the double bubble roof created in this case from five separate pieces illustrating further the intensity of craftsmanship involved in the construction of the V12 Zagato.

Aston Martin designed the VH platform to be able to be used for many years and support many different model types, and I think they've done bloody well with it - over eight years it's allowed them to do five separate models, most of which they can also remove the roof from. The huge savings a small company needs to make on the vast costs of designed a new platform have definitely been achieved by Aston Martin, and that's how cars like the One-77 and this Zagato can exist.
And releasing a Zagato, along with the Virage looking rather a lot different to its sisters and having its own interior, screams to me that there is a whole new range coming. That should keep you happy!
This car is cool!! Looks like an angry snake from the back!! However a lot of money for a car that's got old foundations and no doubt a slightly pony interior!
