Something that has been bouncing around for a while has been VAG injector problems - if you've had this problem, you'll know what it is - I would ask for someone more knowledgeable to post in to describe it definitively.

However, VW appear to be refunding the costs of injectors and/or replacing them FOC where/when they fail - This thread seems to cover it:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The post by bigburd in that thread is the one that refers:

You need to contact VOSA to report this as a safety concern prior to contacting VW directly - this is the link to VOSA:

A mate of mine has just told me that he contacted VW over the 2 injectors he replaced and they are replacing the remaining 2 and the loom as well as refunding him what he paid out for the injectors - worth a call to VW....

Interesting - so is this now an actual manufacturer recall? We have a Seat Leon with the 2.0 170ps tdi engine and had a single injector loom replaced last year, fortunately under manufacturer warranty. I'ts now 4 months out of it's 3 year warranty and we're dreading the fact this may happen again to the 3 old injectors - when we mentioned this to the dealer at the time (last year as mentioned) they stated they could only replace as they died and that if any went out of warranty then tough, we'd have to pay.

So does this mean I can now call the dealer and get it booked in for the remaining 3 to be replaced? And should they actually be aware of it?

I'd give them a call for sure... Expect a "we know nothing" answer though - if so, ring a VW dealer and ask questions about your "Passat"....

Right - I phoned our local dealer (Wayside in Milton Keynes) who knew nothing about it. I then phoned Seat customer service (0500 222222) the lady I spoke with knew all about this, took down all my details, gave me a reference number for whichever garage we use to authorise full parts and labour costs to replace not only the remianing 3 old injectors and looms but also the one replaced last year if it wasn't replaced with the new uprated ones.
Bit of a result there then. She did state this is a fairly new policy and so not all dealers will be aware as yet. Nice result though and she was very friendly and helpful.

Shame this thread is languishing in this sub forum as I bet theres a number of PHers with these engines who don't venture in here - in which case I'll post a link in GG to this thread.

So VAG will replace all injectors even if there's been no failure yet? Is there a reference number for this "recall"? Any idea what vin no's/ages of vehicle are affected (I have a 56 plate 140TDI which has a "stutter" on acceleration). Any help much appreciated!

Bluebarge.

You describe my situation exactly. Other than the stutter on acceleration.

My 140bhp PD engined car has had no breakdowns and no injectors replaced.

VW have agreed that if it has the suspect injectors fitted, they will replace all four and the loom FOC.

There's a mega thread here on it.

http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?...

It basically goes, "ask and you shall be given."

If you don't ask, you'll get nothing. VW have been verrryyyy helfull with this.
VOSA interest kinda helps I guess.

Excellent.. Gonna give Seat customer services a call as this has been niggling away with me for a while now with our Leon now that the miles are piling on.

Regarding stuttering on the PD engines this seems to be well documented. A fix I found was to replace the gasket on the EGR with the following which is only a couple of quid:

1x Part Number:028131547B

Yup, got all 4 injectors changed on my 2007 passat. Car showed no signs of a fault, vw took it in and changed all 4 and wiring loom.

Forgive my ignorance here, but the various cars mentioned in this thread suggest this issue effects the earlier PD (unit injectors) engines and the later CR (common rail) engines, even though they use very different fuel injection systems.

I have a late 2006 Skoka with the 2.0 TDi PD engine (the 140ps BKD), and I'm curious if this 'recall' goes back that far, not that I've had any issues with the car.

I don't know specifically what engines this affects apart from definitely knowing the 170ps used in the 2.0 Leon FR is affected.

Didn't the 170ps TDi engines switch from PD to CR some time in 2007, so the apart from the warranty implications the year of manufacture may be important.

EDIT
Ahh... research is a wonderful thing. Far from a definitive answer, but it's just the PD engines. It all seems to come down to who manufactured the unit injectors fitted to your car. If it was Bosch you're okay, if it was Siemens you may want to investigate further.

With the Skoda Octavias it only effects the 170ps engine, Skoda never fitted Siemans injectors to their 140ps engines, however, other VAG brands do use the the Siemens injectors in the 140ps engine.

Been following this issue for some time here and elsewhere
Have had stutter on acceleration for a while in my 2006 Leon FR TDI (170 PS PD engine), however have not had any engine cut out issues.
Rang Seat UK who were v helpful, without admitting any liability! They advised me to book car into any Seat Dealership to check injectors and see if affected.
Car was seen at Seat dealership today. They were most definitely not aware of this current policy by Seat UK but rang me to say that the injectors were of the (potentially) faulty type and that they would replace them all next week FOC.
RESULT - car is over 5 years old and at 52k miles.
I feel very frustrated for the MANY owners of VW group vehicles with this engine who will be oblivious to this fault and will only know about it when failure occurs - potentially in a very dangerous situation. Clearly VW Group are taking the approach of keeping those who ask happy (and presumably to keep VOSA of their back) but haven't got the balls to carry out a full recall.
Spread the word far and wide to anyone you know with a vehicle with this engine.
Incidentally, my car hasn't seen the Seat Dealership for servicing since it came out of warranty but does have a full service history at indepedents...which they asked nothing about.

Just thought I'd bump this.

We have a 2007 Seat Leon FR tdi with 58k miles and FSSH. Rang Seat customer service a couple of weeks ago and spoke to a nice chap who offered to check whether our engine was affected. Computer was down apparently so promised to call me back and I am still waiting.

I decided to make a second call last week and spoke to someone else and again expressed concerns that our car was affected and could they provide some assurance. Promised to get a 'tech' to call us back and if we were still concerned they would authorise a free check at a local Seat dealer. I am still waiting for this call back.

Pretty piss poor show by Seat if I'm honest mad

Chap I spoke to at Seat customer services was Simon Akroyd who sorted ours out there and then over the phone. Gave us a service ref number to give to our chosen dealer authorising the work to be done and couldn't have been any more helpful. Number I used was 0500 222222 (opt 4 on the menu).

We had our work done a couple of weeks ago, Seat Milton Keynes did the work, had the car 3 days and supplied up with a car for the duration. Theres a noticeable improvement in cold start and also in fuel consumption as well.

Well all sorted. Had the car booked in with Seat last week and all 4 injectors have been replaced at no cost to us. Our Leon FR is 4 yrs old and not under manufacturers warranty so all things considered a bit of a result me thinks. We have also noticed a definate improvement as mentioned above.

2006 Passat TDi with 100200miles on the clock. FVWSH till 50,000miles, specialist service since. Had no problems having x4 injectors & the loom replaced today.

The only trouble I encountered was the service guy trying it on with a £46 charge for diagnostics. I had phoned VW Customer Services earlier & spoke to the lady dealing with the injector issues. She said recovery to dealership & the diagnostic was completely free, even if they were not at fault or did not need replacing.

Hope anyone else reading this either manages to get theirs refunded or gets it sortedsmile

PH strikes again! Thanks guys, If I hadn't done a search on here I would have been £2400 + Labour out of pocketthumbup
