I've had a 2001 Astra Coupe Bertone edition and has only just dawned on me whilst reading through its service invoices that it has parking sensors apparently.

Its always had 4 little sensor things on the rear bumper strips but having never heard any noises when reversing and never having seen a switch I never really thought about them... probably presumed they were just accommodating holes for them or something.

Anyway randomly looking through my service folder I found the old brochure for the car- can't see anything about reversing sensors being an optional extra at all.... however on an old bill it says "work carried out: checked reversing sensors- no fault found at time of test".

Do you think they could be aftermarket ones fitted by a previous owner? If not, how the heck do you activate them? Are there any switches or remote controls for them anywhere? As I said before, its complete news to me, didn't realise I'd even got them (if I do at all).

Anyway here's a shot of the sensors... had a google online and can't see any other coupes with them on.

What do you think? Any ideas where I would look to figure out how to activate them or if they're broken?

I imagine one of them stopped working so the previous owner disconnected the beeper, as I'm tempted to do with mine irked

Usually, they have the four sensors at the back in the bumper connected to a control box, and a wire connected to the reversing light so it knows when you are reversing. If you really want to find out what's going on, see if you can pull some of the lining away in the boot and look for the control box and cables.

Should work automatically when put in reverse. As above, my money would be on them being disconnected or faulty.

Also, there is no such thing as a Bertone Edition model... All Astra Coupe's come with the Bertone badge due to being designed in part by Bertone.

Try reversing towards a wall. If you hear a crunch and no beep, they are faulty.

There is a Bertone spec which is what I was referring to.... as apposed to the Coupe spec. or Turbo spec. which may have been a contributing factor to having sensors fitted.

Will have an investigate in the boot liner at some point but if faulty or disconnected for a reason then I don't think its worth the hassle!

The so called Bertone spec, would be your bog standard coupe equiped with a 1.8 or 2.2, 16" Alloys and 9 times out of 10 cloth interior. Cars fitted with the 2.0 Turbo engine from memory gained bigger brakes, 17" alloys, leather, Spoiler and I think Traction Control. The next models up would be your SE1, SE2, Linea Rossa, Edition 100 & 888

The sensors by the looks of things look OEM styled but I've never seen any fitted to a Mk4 Coupe - only to a Mk4 GSI and they looked the same design to what you have.

Easiest thing to do would be to pop off the paneling in the boot and fish for the wiring.
