As the title says, I've just been caught speeding (4th Sept) and the officers offered me an NIP with 3 points and a £60 fine instead of a trip to court.
No objections from me on that. For the record, the relevant jurisdiction is Scotland.

I live in England, but will be working in Scotland this week until Friday.

So far, nothing odd here. Pay up, move on to the next thing.

BUT: I am booked on a holiday to New Zealand starting on 1 November. The holiday is mostly a campervan type affair, and I expect to be doing the driving.
The question is - will I have my card & paper license back by then?

To me, this presents some questions:
  • Is there a "fast" way to sort this out, to get my physical license back quickly?
  • Will going to the local sherriff court to pay up shorten the process, or will paying by post do the same job at the same speed? (NB. I understand that this is usually done by cheque, but as my chequebook is in England, I won't be able to get to it until Friday)
  • When can I expect my driving license back?
Any advice you can offer will be gratefully recieved. I did search, but couldn't find anything relevant.

I paid over the phone via the automated system and my licence was returned very quickly... I would not worry.

I was done in Scotland for the same reason, posted.license and a cheque worth sixty squids off. Got it back within a week. I really wouldn't worry about November.

I received an NIP at the end of September last year and I STILL haven't had my licence back, I have had no end of trouble with the DVLA and the Police Station I surrendered my licence to.

I cannot believe how incompetent some people can be!

We don't 'surrender' licences to Police Stations here in Scotland : you simply post it to the Clerk of the relevant court for endorsement along with payment of the fine and generally get it back within a week or two .

There is no reason not to go along in person and pay cash over the counter , getting your licence endorsed and returned there and then ( I once did this ) .

Thanks guys.

It would appear that for all the hours the court is open, I'll be working (9-5 Mon-Thu) so I suspect I'll have to do this by post.

Shame there doesn't appear to be an online method, but to be honest that's not all that surprising.

Takes two minutes max at court. Walk in hand over licence, switch card in reader, pin number in licence back with 3 points and £60 lighter in account!
