Just had two of these fitted to the back of my Zed and I'm appalled at the lack of wet grip.

The tyres that came off were Continental Sports and I'd have to try very hard to break traction in any weather but these spin up even if the car's 'off boost'!

Anyone else have similar experience?

Do I just need to wait till they're 'scrubbed in' or have I just spent quite a lot of money on a set of 'ditchfinders'?

T1S must be a 10 year old tyre now, they were replaced by the T1R which itself has been discontinued for a few years. Check the DOT date code, if they're more than 6 years old they shouldn't really have been sold to you.

I hated the T1R on my Lancer, nearly put the through the hedge a few times. Horrible, horrible tyres.

If you paid decent money for them, take them back and demand a refund - they're not fit for purpose, and probably ancient.

Oh yeah, link to jon-'s review web site. Doesn't look good for the T1S. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Toyo/T1S.htm Even in 2007 people weren't terribly fond of them.

Edit: Seems they were release in 2005, so not as ancient as I thought. Still, I wouldn't.

I'm guessing he means this:

Not the old T1S.

Good for doing Fast'n'Furious style drifting (OK if you only expect them to last 30 minutes). For driving on the road, not so much. I'd rather put on Falkens or one of the more modern mid-range tyres.

According to the review it takes quite some time for them to 'run in', (anything between 100 - 500 miles!).

I got a fright when I pulled away from the tyre place. I wasn't gunning it as there was a red light about 200 yards up the road and the rears lit up like a catherine wheel. I'll be treating them with utmost respect for a bit.

So is it the original T1S or the newer T1 Sport? I'd still ook at taking them back if they're rubbish. I got the T1R's replaced after 3000 miles - they replaced them with Yokohamas as per the originals on the car.

The receipt says 'T1 Sport'. I'll go look at the sidewalls at lunchtime to check for sure.

I spoke to Toyo about this not 2 weeks ago.

The T1-R has been discontinued in sizes above 15" and replaced with the new asymmetric T1-Sports.

The T1-R will continue to be available in sizes including and below 15" and the new T1-S is not the same as the original T1-S which was replaced by the T1-R.

For clarity

Old T1-S

Current T1-R

New T1-S

I can't imagine the T1-Sports will be a worse tyre, I should imagine that Rod just needs to scrub em in.

Burn out time there Rod wink

The original T1S were pretty poor. I had them on mine 10 years ago and they car was very loose on them, just felt like they were soft all the time. Plus, the wear rate was rather excessive, the car tore the inner edges out the rear tyres in no time (I only run slight negative camber/4x4) however dry grip was very good. I since changed to T1Rs and so far, have found them to be superb in all respects. Wet and dry grip is good, wear rate is good... the inner edges are fine despite covering a good few thousand miles.

I'd have another set.

LOL, I seem to have little choice in the matter at the moment TBH! They let go if I so much as sneeze!

It's dried up here this morning though, I'll see how they go on a dry road.

Well, that's about 200 miles on them now and I must say they've improved considerably.

They are still more prone to letting go, but aren't as snappy as the Conti's were which I think is a good thing.

Getting a four wheel alignment done on Friday so we'll see if that improves things.

In the meantime, can anyone recommend an outfit that'll do a good job of balancing my tyres somewhere in West Lothian?
