I am having problems getting services (insurance, phones, deliveries) to my new build because the address does not appear in the 'find this address' facility on web sites. The small development has a post code and some of the databases seem to have one or more of the houses on site, one is occupied but the others are not. So far only one databse has had the house I am buying listed and that was wrongly spelled.

How do I get the house onto these databases?

I can't answer your question, but I had a similar issue with the council - they couldn't provide me a garden waste bin because my postcode wasn't on the system. Unsurprisingly they weren't having any problems sending my council tax bill out rolleyes

If you have bought off a developer they will have, or should have, registered the address with the post office, are you getting post?

But, it will take time for this to filter through to database held by other companies, depending on how often they buy a new database.

Speak to the 'Address or Street Naming and Numbering' Department in your local council. - I was surprised, but it really does exist.

Often part of either Building / Planning team or Legal team.

It will take time for it to kick onto the databases though, as lots of people use outdated information files. (this includes whoever used to do the check on school workers who told me that my house did not exist, and I'd better give them a correct address right now. Prats - Their postcode file 3 years out of date!).

It is the Royal Mail who maintain the Postal Address File (PAF) that is used on websites etc.

But fed to them by: 'Address or Street Naming and Numbering' department. They won't just 'update' the database.

I think I remember contacting Royal Mail directly and asked them to add us to their database.
They were happy to oblige and my address details were on their database within a week.
It may take shops and the like a little longer, because they don't update their databases as regularly.

Actually if it is wrong they will usually help, even if it is only to tell you who is the right person at your local council. Try 0845 7740740, that is the Royal Mail customer services. The data is maintained in Portsmouth, the contact being:

Data Quality Manager
Address Management Centre
3/4 St. Georges Business Centre
Portsmouth
P01 3AX

But the issue is probably just that it hasn't filtered through to everyone yet, some people only get quarterly updates and they may not load them very quickly. However if the data is wrong them Royal Mail will be more interested.

I will chase the developer and the council, someone must have put it on somewhere as it appeared (incorrectly) on one site. Seems a bit hit and miss as I would assume they would register them all via the council as soon as the site was liveable. Not helped mind by 2 people deciding an almost identical house names ( we have no numbers).

Edit to add: spoke with coucnil and the addressing officer left on Friday for 2 weeks leave and nobody else is covering the job. Had to send my request by email.

I had exactly this problem about 6 years ago after I finished my property.

I registered it with Royal Mail

http://www2.royalmail.com/customer-service/persona...

I think it took up to about a year before absolutely all the websites I used had my address in their database.

Postcodes on new builds.
We moved into a new bungalow in July 2018. The developer registered the property in April 2018
Our Council at the last minute, gave us a postcode that had been the address of the old cemetery. Amazon have tried delivering without success. Only British Gas have our postcode on their database. DVLA don't have it. I had to phone them to get a new licence and car registration changed. It took until November to get the gas and electric sorted.
As well as the internet connection which took six weeks, the Water Board has said we can't have an account number until next January.
We wish at times they we hadn't moved.
