Is the Satnav in your car DVD or HD driven? Not sure when the V8 V satnav was changed. If it has a DVD driven system the Volvo part number is 31310191, with a HDD the part number is 3130193. I got mine from FRF Volvo Swansea mainly because they gave a reasonable (£25) discount. Parts guy is Simon Hurford. Phone 01792 310 999.

You can get backup 2011 discs from here:

http://www.satnav-updates.com/

and your satnav will now accept full postcodes.

Be careful as the DVD based satnav update discs do not include all European countries. i.e.. Germany. I think the older satnav is in your your

There are 3 DVD's in the Volvo update pack. Countries are listed on the label with some being duplicated. ie. France and UK are on the disc one. Germany and France are on disc two.

My 2010 Volvo update set cost £150 inc p&p. It has given much better lane guidance graphics, full postcode search and continental europe TMC.

I am interested in trying to hack a 2010 disc to get traffic coding and speed cameras, to work in my 2005 DB9. I have experience as a Unix DEV, SQL DEV and just generally playing around with systems, anyone know somewhere I can get the discs (I think it's a firmware and a map disc required?) as a decent price??

Hi Peter we met up at Rick's how was the trip from Romford.

I have tried this and you will have major issues as the kit is not there to deal with the UK ITIS codes,I have spoken to Aston Martin in the past about this.
The reason I tried, I had success on other marques in doing this.In Aston Martin with the base Mitsubishi kit this is Volvo labeled.
In my previous V8 Vantage it was near impossible, you could get the ITIS codes across but the recognition feature was missing for the UK.

In the latest version everything is there TMC/speed camera/ 3D maps and dual maps and it is better than the newer Garmin unit IMO. As you may have noticed on the way down from Rick's.

Hi, how could I forget the lift back in your beautiful car smile Yes the sat nav in your car was much better than the version running in mine but not sure how much of this is down to the HD based system of if that would only have an effect on the access times. So were yo using 2010 maps? I guess I need to get an order in, would still like to have a play with it. I have loads of re-writeable blank DL DVDs so can try updating the cameras, voices etc. Sometimes it's fun just to fiddle!

Once again thankyou so much for the lift, it was much appreciated.

Ok this might sound a bit silly, but do I understand right that it's possible to update my 59 MY09 V8 Vantage Roadster to a version with full post codes and speed cameras?

Yes, and as your car has a HDD satnav the update discs cover all the European countries. Look at Volvo XC90 MY 2007 - http://www.satnav-updates.com/

There were 3 discs in the DVD based 2010 Volvo set, each one has a different set of countries. I inserted the disc containing UK map data(1) and it updated the system software.
