Hi folks,

I've read the warranty cover sticky but it doesn't quite cover what I'm after.

My warranty is up at the end of the year and want to replace it for the 997.

All I really want covered is the engine (IMS, bores etc), gearbox and radiators. Does anyone know for certain which companies will cover these? I don't want to pay a grand out for something only to find they weasel out of paying in the small print should the worst happen.

RMS would be a bonus too.

Aside from Porsche (which I can't take because I don't have a Porsche battery!!!), are Warranty Wise or Warranty Direct any good?

Thanks,

Paul.

I think I've read somewhere that WW or WD tried to weasel out of an IMS issue because it was an inherent problem and should have been addressed by the manufacturer.
IIRC someone wrote snd asked these specific question prior to taking the warranty out and were put off with the response.

What about Hartech ?

Thanks for the info, good to know. Worth an email to each of these companies before parting with cash then.

Hartech looks great value for money, but they are a bit of a treck from me (an hour and 15 mins), which, if the car broke down would be an AA nightmare.

I'd prefer a standard warranty which lets me go to a local garage, but if there isn't one that suits, then I think I'll take a closer look at Hartech.

Thanks again!

My only worry with Maint. Plans such as Hartech's, is they only cover labour should the engine let go; you'd have to pick up the parts bill and I'm not sure what that might come to ?

If your only mod is the battery, is it not worth dropping in a new battery and getting the Porsche warranty.

I know there has been lots of talk about the warranty on here but in my experience as long as you have a standard car with OPC history it is still the most bulletproof policy there is.

If the only mod you've got is a non-Porsche battery just get a Porsche battery and OPC warranty imo.

This really does make the most sense IMHO, particularly because you have a Porsche Warranty already & extending it ought to be fairly straight forward.

Agree. If your car is not modded, stick a Porsche battery in and stick with Porsche cover. It has the widest cover at the end of the day, and will pay 100% for engine/gearbox problems.

All the above - mine is in tomorrow for an oil leak and they suspect it will be either RMS or leaking casings. If the latter, the costs would be around £5k, but you could argue that both are "inherent problems" and I am not prepared for the hassle of a non OPC warranty, just to save a few £000's PA.

If you are even slightly concerned about the Warranty and a big bill failure, go with the above; Porsche Battery (with or without the KY) and a full Porsche Warranty - they do seem to be 'bumper to bumper' these days (ex wear and tear!)

Mine is in there now being renewed - it has cost me money but bought me peace of mind and worry free miles on the whole! smile

ps - Costs as in the Warranty has cost way more than the few minor things that have been fixed - unlike some who have 'made money' with the Warranty smile I guess I have just been lucky and got a 'good' car that was made on Wednesday morning as opposed to late on a Friday before Bank Hols .... beer

in your circumstances a new Porsche battery and Porsche warranty is the way to go
