Did you pay COYS money to view their tent at PCGB 50th Event
Discussion
Ladies & Gentlemen,
I previously posted on here my dissatisfaction with what was on offer on the Saturday of the PCGB 50th Anniversary Event. FInally PCGB has agreed to make a donation to a charity of my choice in lieu of my entry fee, and that of my wife and parents in law. I did threaten to report the club to Trading Standards; I have no idea if this prompted their response.
However, during the course of discussions the issue of Coy's charge to view their display cars came up. Coy's tried to charge me £40 for a catalogue that was free online for the four of us to view their cars. Other PH readers may recall that I and others also commented upon the rudeness of the Coy's security staff, for which Coy's have subsequently apologised to me for and blamed upon a sub-contractor. Fine.
Less fine is PCGB's Director of Communication telling me that: [quote] I understood that there would not be a charge to Club members attending on the Saturday as it was a 'Viewing Only day'. Clearly there was/ has been confusion as indeed one of the Coys Directors agreed with me that they would not charge members to come in to view on the Saturday [end quote]
Pursuing this with Coys I received an email from Guy Newton which stated that: [quote] As I previously stated, and agreed, we are more than happy to refund you or your charity the entry fee your family paid Coys as a gesture of goodwill [end quote].
All well and good? Well not quite. Because there were a large number of people who also paid and I suggested to Guy that if the club had arranged that there would be no fee, he should not just be refunding my money (although as stated above I declined to pay) but also that of other members. Since then Guy, and curiously now the PCGB, has declined to answer my emails on the subject.
So, I am now back with Trading Standards but in the interim I draw this to wider attention.
Why am I doing this? Not because I need the money but because there is a point of principle. It is of course very disappointing that Coys will no longer reply to emails afte their very helpful start. However I will post on here updates as my case with Trading Standards progresses but in the interim you may wish to consider whether in light of the comments above the fee you paid acceptable.
Edited to add that there is no suggestion of any illegality or deliberate deceit but perhaps some organisational mis-communication for which the public may have unwittingly and unfairly paid a price.

well done you. i also attende the pcgb day saturday and was spoke to abruptly by the gorillas on the door and frankly its a joke charging to view the cars. I stood outside and looked at them online instead! Funny how they now dont reply to your emails and how they blame the 'contractors' for thier manners. You cant tell me they were unaware of how they were talking to people. PLANKS!
I have had the- I wont say pelasure- experience of dealing with Coys a while back. Not pleasent at the time, which was odd.
Dont forget that the sale of the catalogue (and subsequent entry) is how they make their money. That and the 12.5% froom the old owner of the sold car. And another 12.5% from the new owner of every car sold.
With cash like that rolling in, why should they bother with you if you arent a multi millionnaire??
