996t brake upgrade - which caliper?

Guys,

I am right at the point of buying a pair of new front 6 spots for my 996t. My options are to go with either the 996 GT3 brake caliper or the 997t brake caliper. So my questions are:

Given that the calipers are the same price, but the 997t pads are 50 quid cheaper per set am I better of going this way?

Was/is the 997t caliper a better piece of hardware (newer design) than the 996 GT3 caliper?

I believe both are the same for caliper spread and shouldn't affect by brake bias.

So which way should I go?

996 six pots are different to 997 six pots.. the latter are a bit larger.. i think.

Missed this one. It is just the part numbers that are different, and in fact the part number is the same for the 996gt3 and the 997gt3 right through to 08. Just very small differences so either will do and the price should be the same.

If you have access to someone with a motorsport account, then you can get the cup car calipers which are the same 6 pots but have the added advantage of ceramic inserts on the pistons to help with heat reduction. This is what we use when we upgrade. We also upgrade the rear 4 pots to the 997 ones (still 4 pots) but from the cup cars, against with ceramic inserts.

please trust me that the later six-pot (997) calipers are larger.. i have been working on my mates 997.1 RS this week, and his calipers are slightly larger and a different shape to my 996.2 RS calipers:

Maybe the RS calipers are a bit bigger?

All 997 GT six pot are the same size and will fit under all o/e rims no worries.. btw the the yellow calipers are £100. cheaper than the same reds from OPC.. go figure!?..

Yes, I knew the yellows were cheeaper and I am sure Porsche know that, but that would mean that I need to change the rears to yellows too.

So where is the caliper bigger on the 997 from that was refered to earlier?

please study my two pics above posted.. my 996 RS top.. check the gap in each pic of the black dust cap to the top edge of each caliper, and then study/compare the outline shape of each caliper.. the bottom/latter(997) caliper is slightly larger overall.

It does go on and just clears the wing. Of course once spacers are on the front, you have to fit them on the back................don't you?

I'd suggest that the spacers were because of your Alcons rather than the calipers if you fitted them to a 996t.

It was done by JZM, they said they would be required with that set up.

I've got some Porsche/Brembo 6pot calipers fitted to my car, and I'm trying to identify the part so as to get the right pads.

They're 996-351-431-30 & 432-30.

They also seem to have PGD P90 EBC Yellow pads?

Are these 996 GT3/GT2 calipers then?
What does the -30 signify at the end?

Those part numbers are for the front yellow ceramic brake calipers. So you want any 03> GT3 caliper to suit.

I had this with my 6 pots, part numbers are above. Perhaps the "90" is the caliper with the ceramic insert. The pads are not EBC. They are Pagid and only available through Porsche. If you take the pad out, it will have the Porsche part number on it.

There was another thread on this , but Evoslayers photos seem to have disappeared? It clearly showed the yellow pad with Pagid and the Porsche part number on it. I now have 2 sets of these, so can take another picture if you wish?

I saw a yellow pad, and immediately assumed it was an EBC pad, but having seen 'PGD' on the back of one realised they must be Pagid.

I'm looking at replacement pads at the moment - the calipers are on my Audi S4 Track car (weight ~1300kgs and ~450bhp).

Any recommendations? Was looking at Carbone Lorraine RC6...
