I've still got mine too, it confused the hell out of the Dubai Traffic Department when I applied for my UAE Driving permit!! The young arab lassie held up for all to see laughing her head off.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/8921683/P...
I'm hanging on to it as long as I can, proud of it I am..........
The way I read the change is it is the paper part that goes with the photo licence that will be phased out. Not the paper licences that were issued before the photo licence was introduced.
As the changes are to reduce red tape it would be ridiculous to force those of us with paper licences to have to apply for photo licences.

Yes your right its the paper counterpart to the photo-licence their on about. As the changes are to reduce red tape it would be ridiculous to force those of us with paper licences to have to apply for photo licences.
I'll carry on then using my tatty piece of paper
Did notice from article below that you won't have to keep on declaring sorn every year, that was another pain in the bum with a good chance of DVLA giving you another penalty for failure to do so.

I can understand removing the requirement for a paper part to the driving licence. It never made sense when the plastic card came out, and still doesn't. Does this mean all your provisionals will be listed on the card as well in future? If it does, that'll mean my fourth (or is it fifth?) new driving licence card since 2007.
I see there is a comment in the article about the insurance certificates no longer being required. Will this not make it difficult to check on who is driving the car and whether or not they are allowed to be? Or do named drivers also get listed in the insurance database?

the paper part is required because the original EU model didn't include endorsements or provisional categories on the card I see there is a comment in the article about the insurance certificates no longer being required. named drivers are listed as i understand it as is whether you have driving other cars on your car...
paper licences are all but dead anyway it's a increasingly small number of people who can have a valid paper licence anyway, made smaller still if you wangt to remove expired endorsements,
