Looking to have my standard GTO (3) wheels refurbed and painted shadow chrome. I'll be going with BJV who I've used before but was wondering what I could do about the center caps and nut. Has anyone who had there wheels colour changed had these bits sorted at the same time or is it something you need to take care of yourself?

BJV won't be able to do the centres for you as they'll melt in the process. I guess the only option you have is to find a similar colour in an aerosol and spray them yourself?
I've often thought about getting someone to machine some centres in alloy so they could be colour coded and wouldn't crack like the plastic ones do. Can't be that difficult surely and now that finding replacements for the centres is proving difficult, I'm guessing there should be some demand albeit low?
Maybe Tux could knock up some in carbon fibre?

I took a dremmel to mine and removed the red annodisation ( took for ever ). I've always thought the coloured wheel centres look a bit chavvy. I also sprayed them in clear lacquer as they started to oxidise.

The plastic bits would be easy enough to make out of aluminium I would think, not that I'm offering you understand.

Your not far from me and I had a set of gto3 wheels done six months ago. BJV do a great job but they only strip then powder coat but the guy near me will fix scuffs etc. I had a set of four wheels and plastic centres done and they looked amazing, the centre nuts I etch primed and sprayed satin black.

Cheers, so just to be clear you had wicked wheels do the whole job including refurb and paint? Did they do it mobile or was it wheels off and bring to them?

This is not true as they did mine. Thw only bit they wont paint the bit that goes through the center of the wheel, which the nut attaches to. I had mine done black and just painted the end with spray paint. You don't want it too thick as the Nut won't go on so I only painted the first couple of threads.

Another thing to whatch out (which I will be asking when I get my spare set painted) is to get them to keep the inner edge of the wheel that the insert goes through clear of paint as you won't get it in without sanding is back.

Yes that's right, they did the lot. All I done was remove them from my car and he picked them up one morning, then dropped them off when done. If your interested it would be worth phoning him and making sure he can do exactly what you want so your not disappointed.

On the subject of the wheel nuts, I paid about £50 for a new set of shiny aluminium ones as I prefer the idea of colourless nuts too. BUT despite the USA vendor stating they were for a TSW wheel, the thread pattern was not the same and they do NOT fit!
Anyone got any idea why? Are GTO-3 wheels not TSWs?

Cheers

Rather than start another thread i though id stick this one here.

Its a question about the fake split rim bolts in the 3r wheels. Best way to take them out? Best way to stick them back in? Does anyone have any spare as im missing 4 on one wheel? Or will the alloy refurbing place know all this as they must of done fake split rim wheels on other cars before. I tried to find the place in SA that made them but guessing there not trading anymore as its proved unsuccessful.

Cheers

Do you really want them in? Empty sockets look great too.

Wheel refurbers melt them out as part of the acid strip process - it would be a nightmare to lever them all out and then re-glue new ones in! FYI, they are glued in and are not designed to come out.

Didnt know if they would come out using an allen key socket to snap the glue biggrin

If theres no way around it id have to get it done then source the new ones after if i didnt like it. Ive seen a shadow chrome set without the bolts there but not a set in standard colour. Does it not just look a little empty?

They are indeed TSW. I contacted them and they dont make them anymore.

This place has some, but only a few odd coloured ones, not a full set :

Personally i wouldn't touch BJV. they have messed up 2 sets of wheels of mine!

As im guessing your Herts/Beds if you were going to BJV. There is a company called London Colney Anodizing, and surprisingly they would redo the center nuts. Not sure on cost

Max Powder in Hemel hempstead are also very good.

Thought i would use this thread rather than start a new one. Just pick my wheels up from the powder coaters. They are silver as its just the lights that make them yellowish.

Bought 120 allen head bolts. Read on here that there were 28 per wheel, turns out theres 29 so was glad i got extra

All stuck in

So just getting new R1Rs fitted on thursday then back on the car once im home this weekend
