Maybe I'm the only one to notice this spectre of electrical gremlins occurring but why is it always a Peugeot 206? The scene is generally me sat on the motorway wondering if the little French POS is actually slowing down or attempting a J-turn on black ice.

Surely the car must have all manner of systems in place to make sure that such an oddity can't happen?

Or maybe the cars are just st?

Something to do with a cheap plastic switch or like in the passenger footwell that is easily kicked.

Mum's Volvo V40 used to have a problem with the reverse light coming on whilst driving. It turned out to be a failed reverse selector switch or something like that.

Does the reverse light flash on when it's started up too, by any chance? I've seen that on Volvos. Very unnerving when you're filling up smile

I noticed a 206 with the brake lights permanently on the other day. I've met a couple of folk with them and they have had nothing but terrible things to say about the electrical reliability of them.

yes only apparent on RHD cars, IIRC the master cylinder isn't moved, there's a bar connecting the brake pedal to the cylinder from the right hand side, so the brake can be activated from the footwell.

Surely that is just Autos, IIRC you pass through Reverse to get to Drive on most Autos.

It's probably an automatic.

I wondered if that was the case. Clears that up for me smile

Agree it's disconcerting though - especially when driven by an old duffer! laugh

Noticed that a while ago aswell, 206 with break lights on.
Saw another one, at night with no rear lights whats so ever, just thought it was a doppy woman with no lights on, but as i drove past headlights were on. dangerous to say the least

Had the same on my Fabia today. Brake lights stuck on. New switch and it's good to go again.

Does often seem to be french cars, or Ford Fiestas in my experience. By no means exclusive to them, however, as proved by the Skoda today.

No, I think that only happens on some Automatics, when you pass through reverse to get into Drive.

Seen it on a 206, followed for over 15 miles was slightly annoying. Also seen brake lights stuck on a BMW Mini.

Not a Peugeot, admittedly, but we saw a TV advert for Renault's new range of electric cars the other night.

Oh how we laughed!
