Hi all,

my fiancee is looking to replace her robust but aged (and surprisingly droppable down a toilet proof) nokia 5000d-2 with something more modern.

her requirements are it must have buttons (not keen on touch screens as they cannot be used to text without looking), be able to check her hotmail, other webmail and Facebook (of course) and preferably be pink (it pained me to type that last bit).

any suggestions? i've let her use my old iPhone but she doesn't like the lack of buttons.

she's been looking at the nokia c301 but i've checked some online reviews who slated it for being fragile and breakable.

thanks folks

i like that htc.

she says she doesn't want a slider and prefers the traditional 9 number keys layout for texting, not these new fangled qwerty keyboards!

keep em coming folks

Tell her she doesn't even need to type, just Speech to TXT. Seriously she will get used to it and wonder why she would want the old style (you can change to that keypad if you want to) My misses did.

Unlikely find, Smartphones are by "definition" touch screen. Sliders like the desire z are the only option that I can think of. Of course you may be able to get an app for 9 number key texting... but really... she needs to get into the querty predictive text world.....getmecoat

where is the definition that a smartphone must be touch screen ?

Blackberry and ,arguably the original smartphone, Nokia communicator series would suggest otherwise.

Hmm. How about a non smartphone, but a phone with buttons that can access Facebook, hotmail and other web mail and basic interweb.

Since getting an iPhone I know nothing about other phones anymore

Thanks

Why does she want to text without looking? While driving perhaps?

+1

I currently have an iPhone and previously had a BlackBerry......I prefer the BlackBerry and wish I had not changed frown

I had this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002KQLUVU/ref=...

Cheap and cheerful but always did the job!

I had one of the first HTC smart phones, (It came out around the time of the first Iphone) It didnt have a keypad, but it ran on windows 6.5 iirc, I added a script/program that added a 9key T5 predictive text input for texting. This was written by HTC as the HTC 'elf' was tiny (half the size of the iphone) and the qwerty keypad was too small to type on with your finger. The phone got slated in the press for this one failing. It has always confused me why these 'smartphones' dont have the option to use multiple keypad/board options, for example what if im blind and prefer to use the 8 key braille keyboard.

Wouldn't recommend it myself but if she's used to Nokias then an E7 could be a possibility. Think there's a couple of Windows Phone 7 phones with keyboards but again, they are all going to be qwerty keyboards.

I'll see your 'early HTC smart phone' and raise you my 'early HTC smart phone' (Win 5 upgraded to various Win6.1 and 6.5 ROMs over the years!)

It was still going as my 'only' phone until I upgraded to an HTC Sensation XE the other week! 2004 - 2012, it'll be on eBay soon!

Ohh nice, not really a HTC lol but I will give you that, the HTC 'universal' was 02 branded. Wasnt it great when people were all houty touty about having an iphone just saying the simple phrase to them 'but I can copy and paste' would shut them up. smile

Ironically I now have an Iphone.. lol
