from 3 litre carerra to 996 turbo???

have posted this for my brother in law as he doesnt use tinternet.
he already has a 1983 i think carerra 3litre which is in good cond and doesnt get used much.
hes been offered a 996 turbo spec not known at present and hes asked for my opinion. i have a 996 careera 2 and love it but i know very little about gt2 gt3 or turbo as they arent my bag.
i know its an 02 reg and very dark grey with 30k on clock.
can the knowledgeable amongst you point out the pros and cons about a car like this.
ie running costs,reliability,not using it much,etc etc.
i did say however that 996 prices are dropping quite rapidly but dont know if thats true about the turbo models.
